A Guide To Surviving A Girls Period

So many guys seem to not know how to react when a girl is on her period, whether it be a friend, girlfriend, a wife, fiance, sister, aunt, mother, you get the point. They seem to commonly associate a period with chocolate cravings, PMS fueled anger, mood swings, and just aggressive behavior. Now I admit to being an FtM transsexual, and that means I did have a period to deal with, I used to be in the girls locker room leaving me with so many different period attitudes, and I am in a female dominated family who also have different period attitudes. So this is for the guys out there who seem to think chocolate and PMS is what a period is all about.

PMSing

Expectation of a girl PMSing:

Reality:

A Guide To Surviving A Girls Period

There's this super common misconception that when a girl is in fact dealing with PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome), it just means she angry and a chocolate demon. Reality is, she probably has a few of the symptoms listed above, and a cocky and amused attitude from a couple of guys isn't going to make it any better, probably just piss her off even more. If I had a dollar for every time some guy said a comment about me PMSing, when I was really just annoyed with something he said, I'd be rich an able to pay off any college bills ten times over.

While there is no exact reason known as to why PMS even occurs, it's said to be mainly related to the changes in hormones in a womans body before her period.

Now let me tell you, I've had cramps and they are nothing to joke about. I've had to call a day off work and school because I've had cramps so bad I was crying in my bed in a fetal position, with nothing to help me. I would just take a few pills and some nyquil and sleep it off hopefully. I would either be craving things like crazy or barely eat. I would be so damn moody because of everything. Now add in a guys cocky attitude about my period, and are you really going to sit there and wonder why a girl gets pissed with guys on her period? Guys have no clue what they're talking about with PMSing, and most guys don't even take the time to figure out what it means and how to help.

So how to help? Well, for starters, don't just throw her a chocolate bar and expect everything to be just peachy. Actually talk to her when she wants to talk and figure out what you can do to help. Being a general dick the entire time is the fastest way to get a bitchy attitude. Being understanding towards the situation will make shark week a little more manageable.

The Necessary Items, Pads And Tampons

A Guide To Surviving A Girls Period

So your girl is bleeding, probably not feeling her best, and needs some tampons and asks you to go. Generally, the guy grudgingly abliges. You go to the nearest Wal-Mart and locate the aisle and either grab the first thing you see or start in confusion and hopefully grab the right thing, or text/call and ask what the hell you're looking at and what you're getting.

I admit, it's a bit much. There's so many brands, types, and a guy would have no clue what the hell the difference between the blood flows are. I mean, ask a guy the difference between super and overnight and he'll probably say there's none, they both soak up a lot (Which there is a slight difference, but that's another story).

So here, I just wanna say just make sure you grab the right ones and go with a posititive attitude. Nothing embarassing about grabbing a few boxes of Kotex tampons. Way better alternative than having to go back to the store for detergeant (if you ran out), new sheets, clothing, and an angry girl waiting for you to get back because you got the wrong brand. Trust me when I say this: GET THE RIGHT TYPE, IF ANYTHING THE RIGHT FLOW TYPE. Do NOT get a girl who needs super some lites and tell her to just change it more often. That's both painful and annoying and a waste of money. Just suck it up and get them.

Being Horny On Your Period

A Guide To Surviving A Girls Period

So I've noticed this and ended up looking it up and it's true that girls are generally more horny during their period. Now I've witnessed this in the locker rooms. I could tell whose on their period and who wasn't sometimes by how they acted. One girl would become a little grabber and another friend of mines would slap ass a lot more. It's pretty common to see the girls being touchy feely with one another, but during that time of the month it was like they were about to just start having sex with each other sometimes. I'd notice they would be way more lovely towards their bfs and gfs, and being the trans in the room (as I was told I had to use the girls rooms until I had top surgery), I was almost tortured by this.

So hormones are to blame for this like they are to blame for PMSing. But it's understandable when you really don't want to do anything with a bloody girl, much less give her head. The best y'all can do if she is one who get's really horny is wait until before, after, or hit it in the shower. But the best thing you shouldn't do is get angry with her for it. I've seen guys get disgusted by a girl even sitting on their laps, scared blood is gonna attack them. Dude. They've had a period for some time now. They can control it. If you have a severe issue with her blood, that's unforunate but I advise you get over it cause it's gonna be back next month and the next month and the next month and so on until she's pregnant and hits menopause.

Period Blood (Look up your own photos)

So I don't want to disgust people, but it's about the big thing about periods and thats the blood itself. Okay, guys, let me tell y'all something: It's there. I understand it's incredibly disgusting to you, but it's there okay. I've met so many who treat it like its a sin to be aware that your girl is on her cycle and you'll go to hell for seeing blood. Like, come on. The girl has enough trouble trying to keep it from staining her clothes and, god forbid, leaking in public while staying comfortable and somewhat dry. Now add it to a guy who overreacts when she's on her period like the blood is going to murder him, and it's just stupid at that point.

Like I get that you don't want blood on you, but the girl has a lot more to worry about in her own pants. You can relax as a guy.

Finally, Understand Her

So not every girl is going to be very aggressive during her period, some might even become quite docile. Not every girl will go asking you for tampons and pads, she might get them herself. Not every girl is going to be horny as hell. This is not a "For every female" guide, but a general cover of the common stuff. I just think that if you're a male in a relationship with a female, who just so happens to be on her monthly, try your best to get to know how she is and peacefully work around it. Don't go around laughing, telling her to stop PMSing, relax, don't get blood everywhere, and then ask if some Dove would make her happy like that's a cure-all. Just get to know your girl, how she behaves, and PEACEFULLY work around it. Don't act like a dick because she's not on her period forever, and she might come at you very angrily after the fact because of your attitude while she was.

Hopefully I helped and hope I didn't piss any ladies off right now, that wasn't my intention.

By the way: I'm male now. I know, and get this on EVERY fucking take, I'm MALE. I was born female. If you're plan is to just comment as to how I'm still female, message me instead because that's not what this is about. But I know I'm gonna have those people who'll comment saying, "Wait, so are you a boy or girl?" and then ignorantly comment the entire time. Just message me anything relating to that, but feel free to comment otherwise.

  • My boyfriend literally doesn't care if I want sex on my period because when I get turned on I get wet instead of bleeding for a while and the little drop of blood on the tip of the condom after is no big deal to him. A good orgasm gets rid of my cramps and any moodiness too. Plus he has his moody irritable days too that I have to deal with, it's part of being in a relationship! by the way GirlsaskGuys seems like a very unaccepting place full of unintelligent little bigots (yes being bigoted is a sign of stupidity) anyways I think it's really cool that you are so open about the fact you are a trans man. You are awesome!

    • Couldn't agree more.

    • Learned a little something now, thank ye. Glad you think that, I don't hide who I am anymore. I used to, but I realized it hurt me more. So I'm very open if it's somewhat relevant to the conversation. If someone asks, I'll tell them. But if they wanna act all rude, I can return the attitude back with the more sarcastic tone an annoy them to death.

  • Well I have feelings that some women have " good " periods and others have "bad" periods. That is how much stress the period puts them through. Men must be sympathetic towards this time and help out however they can. Do not be so stupid about buying them pads and or tampons. Ask questions and get it right the first time. The women will be grateful for your help and understanding. I had 4 sisters, a mom , three daughters , and 4 grand daughters. If you are going to love them , love them otherwise go hide out somewhere.

    • That's basically what I said in a less thorough nutshell buddy XD. But I have my mom, granma, and TONS of female cousins as well as aunts and then myself, my best friend, and female teammates, coaches, teachers, and girls in the locker room. I think I am pretty informed lol.

  • I would want to rub her feet, hold her in my arms, rub her back, kiss her, just be with her. I want her to feel like she can trust me and lean on me, because that is what I am for. I am her man.

    • You are a good boyfriend :) she's lucky to have you.

  • I love this! It's right because it's the common stuff and you still pointed out that not EVERY girl is like this! @CityBoy773 you are spot on with this! More guys should read this!

  • The best thing EVER... :)

  • Really good mytake. I'd just like to add one thing though. If the girl is hellbent on him getting the exact kind of tampon right, then she should just show him a picture of what the box looks like. Or dig up the old box and show that. Would make it a lot easier for the guy to get it right.

  • Great MyTake.

I'm happy my boyfriend understands the truth about periods and treats me like a human being and not a hormone crazed animal.

Being horny on a period is difficult when a guy is terrified of you and your 'dirty' blood. Ya know what guys, it won't kill you. But I understand how it can freak you out, so I suggest soft cups <3 They are amazing.

And oh yes, some guys assume you're mad or crying because you're on your period. Maybe something bad happened... and the most crazed thing I do on my period is want a lot of sex.

    Again, great MyTake!

    • Can you be treated like a Hormone crazed Human? Biologically humans are animals. So you can be called a "hormone crazed animal". LOLOLOL

    • Glad your boyfriend understands that an you like it :)

    • I refer to people as animals, because we are. Don't read that much into the word choice of my answer.

  • Honestly I had skepticism and wrongfully assumed this was going to be really sexist, but you actually provided a lot of helpful information and insight and I think this is a very sound mytake.

    • Well thank you :). An just so you know, I try to not be very sexist. I was born a man an lived as a girl until recently. I have no right to be sexist in my opinion lol.

    • Ah no worries I understand. You did really well and I loved your take, I hope you do more in the future.

  • Surprisingly, I'm only moody a week or two before my period. Which is what PMS is. It's not during your period. During your period you're moody simply because that's part of the menstruation.

However, I only get crampy, hungry and sleepy when I'm on my period. I'm not angry or easily annoyed. That's usually a few weeks before.

  • Thanks so much! 99% of the guys I know go off of stereotypes and misinformation - this is refreshing to hear such maturity from a guy!

    • He used to be a girl tho

    • Yeah I did, you're point?

  • May be considered weird for this, but does anyone else have a mental calendar of their SO's period schedule? I know when my sisters' are on theirs as well as a few girlfriends.

Sure, it sounds creepy, but at the end of the day, you know exactly what week of the month to be particularly kind and easy going.

    • Smart. I did that with a girl I dated. Great idea, because she became violent an unpredictable days 1 and 2, normal day 3-5, an the last day (s) REALLY sexual an horny. Like if I was near her, I will be humped until I did something.

  • this is so great :)

  • Thank you. This was informative, applicable information, something I love to see in MyTakes.

  • I guess I'm one of the few lucky ladies who don't feel ajy kind of ache during my period. I wouldn't even know about it if it wasn't for the instant tampon changing.

  • I just have severe cramps during period.
If I have my pain killer, pads, and hot compress with me, then the only thing I ask for is silence or peacefulness. Lol.

Noise makes my pain increase. :p

    • That's how my cramps used to be. My brother learned his lesson the hard way by coming in my room screaming, so I spiked the tv remote at his head. Actually cut the hell out of him, made him bleed a LOT, left a scar, an he almost needed stitches. But when my mom an granma learned of why, they really weren't made at me but at HIM.

    • Omg :o Sometimes I do feel like throwing something at them. They just don't listen and continue to make noise. It is so annoying. :p

    • They gave him a clear warning. I was in the room with the blinds drawn and the lights off for a reason lol. He decided to coming in just to scream. Like literally, walked in and started to high pitch scream. Reason being is because they told him to do my job of sweeping and mopping because I was having trouble sitting up and he assumed screaming would make it fair.

  • And my FAVORITE part? Attending gym class with a thick pad and the feeling that someone shoved their fist up my vagina, and still being expected to do physical activity. No. Just no.

    • Lol. Literally me first semester of 9th grade😂.

  • My brothers don't have to worry about this because I tell them everything about periods. They think it's gross but I don't care. XD

    • You know, I have two brothers. One asked me why girls are moody during their period. We got a chair, got some pop and chips, and I talked with him for over an hour on what goes on. He later tells me they don't learn any of that in school and I groaned with annoyance at schools. At least I helped my brother understand something. Funny thing was, he was 12 when he asked and wasn't grossed out really, just curious.

    • aw lawd o_o

  • yesssss, I thought this was going to be like "Take cover and try not to piss her off lelelele" but was pleasantly surprised

    • No, not like that! Unless she's on the verge of spiking potentially fatal objects at you, in that case: RUN.

    • hahaha :P

    • "Take Cover" ... LOLOLOL!!

  • Hands down the best take I've ever read. I'm so lucky my boyfriend is an absolute angel to me when in on my period because my guy friends are mostly cunts.

  • It's harder for the girl than it could be for her boyfriend.

    • Thats debatable, I know a girl who complains so much during her time of month, but says she doesn't have tons of pain like a lot of girls.

    • Thus you say a lot of girls have tons of pain. Indeed. One girl complaining too much is just ONE problem, not a general problem.

  • Awesome take :)

  • I stay away from my girlfriend during her period. She is a massive bitch on her period. Way more so than other girls.

    • excellent strategy.
