Abortion: acceptable or an abomination to mankind?

With things more public more now than ever abortion has become a real headliner for people and the argument has been heating up about whether or not it should be legal and if it is moral or not. If laws were passed banning abortion wouldn't that take away some of your rights as a human being? being able to do whatever you want to your body along the lines of helping it. I mean if a women is carrying a baby with a deadly genetic disorder like tay-sachs or trisomy 18 an d13, with such deadly genetic disorders why put a women through a pregnancy that would even claim her own life? Pregnancy is a dangerous period in a women's life, so why not get the unborn fetus out if you know it has a disorder and will die within a year after birth, not only that but knowing that it could kill you in the delivery process. I work at a funeral home and we had a call about a women who wants a funeral for her 7 month old and a 5 month old who died, it is sad but why go through with a arranged funeral and the costs? What is there to say at the funeral? To me these answers were what sparked the whole abortion debate with a group of female friends, my mom even. To me a unborn fetus is not a life, it cannot live outside the womb by itself and sustain its life. so therefore I am totally for abortion if the situation calls for it. I was enlightened to hear what my other friends said to me, stating that they can have premature births and babies do make it. but what percent of those make it to live past a few years? Abortion to me is way over blown and put to the extreme with people. they bring morals into it which I think is wrong, your total neglecting a women's rights to her own body and calling it murder for something that is not alive YET. "yet" is the key word, it could have a life, again it could die in a miscarriage or kill the mother. My last point in why I am for abortion is if a women is raped, or has STI's and do not want the child of a rapist or let the child suffer from HIV. To me this should and always must be a good option for women, why go through the pain of seeing the person who raped you in your child? or know your child won't live long with HIV or if they do the medicine to slow the disease is very costly? These questions should be taken into consideration, whether your for or against abortion both sides need to be looked at and accepted as viable and not to harm anyone's thinking. But my question to you girlsaskguys.com is what is your overall take on Abortion?

Honestly you guys and gals think you are so intelligant brining up all these"facts" but what is the definition of life? Its nothing but a mere opinion based response to the word, people think words mean many different things.

life has so many meannings and is taken in so many ways. you can credit or discredit any definition you would like. why is this topic so touchy for people? I am for abortion under reasonable circumstances.

but for all you prolife antiabortion people, then why do you practice safe sex? the concept should be the same, you killing any chances for life, your restricting your body from going through with a normal reproductive process

my logic in posting this question was for people responses not the scrutiny of my own beliefs, I was merely giving you something to think about and maybe base opinions on what I have to say. not a barrage of negative and irrational angry trolling

16 22if abortion was illegal medical acceptions would be allowed so that part of your argument is void. also a baby cannot live on its own outside of the women it needs care that is due to our culture and our technology, therefore it falls under the same definition of not a living thing. since abortion is part of our culture and we don't yet have the technology to help a small baby (fetus) that needs it so therefore that portion of your argument is also void. the human life cycle starts at conception therefore it is human and it is living. if a baby under 7 cannot be murdered in cold blood then neither should a child I would assume an 8 year old can catch small animals and gather berries and what not possibly you are at lest developing decent skill and resoning by 8 so some will make it some wont. so your definition of life is most definitaly and opinion and not of sound scientific thought its a consensus that in the scientific community that life begins at conception and well I feel that in our modern times of technology and super power governments that only scientis not the popular opinion of people or politicians, should be allowed to make laws of this magnatude.

The only time abortion is remotely acceptable is when it might cause harm to the mother. Other than that anyone who is pro-choice is pro-murder. Doesn't matter what the circumstance. You can be pro-abortion and anti-murder the two go hand in hand.
Abortion should be allowed. It's a basic human right for a women to have control over her body.
Have you seen a picture of a fetus inside the woman's body? It is inside the woman's body, not part of her body.

My point is that it is not part of her body. She wouldn't be having control of her body taken away because it isn't her body. It is the body of a living child. Because it is not part of her body she does not have the right to kill it.

Yes, it does have personhood. After about 20 weeks the baby can feel pain. The baby can smile at 6 weeks. At 18 weeks they can hear their mother's voice. Some babies are known to kick as early as 13 weeks. At about 13-15 weeks the baby can taste your diet. Are these not signs of personhood? If a baby is born at 36 weeks, is it more of a person than a baby inside the womb that is 36 weeks? Is the birth canal the only thing that separates a person from a nonperson? If so, what about C-sections? When does the baby become a person then? Do they become a person when they come out, or when the can see their way out. How can 7 inches determine whether it is okay to tear a human being limb from limb? I apologize if I sound emotional, it is just so hard for me to understand how people can even consider this being okay.
@J3archer You do realize that c section only happens when complications in birth happen, not many weeks early. But let’s suppose they have personhood. What rights might they have? For one thing, even if they are a person, do they have the right to occupy a women’s womb even if the women doesn’t consent?
Abortion is OK under certain circumstances but when people use it as a form of birthcontrol it is inhumane
acceptable in some cases, horrible in others. if you were raped / assaulted or the condom broke and you're not able to / not ready to have a baby then you should be allowed to, that's your choice. if you're just letting him do it in you though just for the feeling then getting it aborted; that's terrible.

In the earliest stages of development, first trimester, I think it should be legal. But later in the pregnancy, for example the last two weeks, abortion should not be legal, unless the life of the mother is in critical danger.
I don't consider it a form of birthcontrol, as many other do, but whether it is legal or not, abortions will still be performed. Ultimately it is a decision that a woman has to make, unfortunately the guy that got her pregnant doesn't have a say.
If there is a good reason to get one, then get one, if you are just too stupid or lazy to swallow a birthcontrol pill everyday, then you definitely shouldn't have a baby.
The medical community needs to create a proper male birthcontrol pill, because men won't "forget" to take it like women do.
That's a great question. Even though I don't agree with it and wish it didn't exist, it does and sometimes, if someones life is endangered or sex was forced upon her, then she might need one. I think that it gets used in the wrong way most of the time though. I know a lot of people who see it as birth control practically, wasting human life without any regards to the damage they are doing to themselves. Awful. I think sparing is the right word for matters such as this. People should be more careful and really think more before they open up their legs in the heat of the moment.

I also want to add that overpopulation is one of the biggest threats to this planet. If abortion was banned it would make this problem even larger.

Overpopulation is not a threat, that is a huge myth. And even if it were, if we were to institute a policy of taking life in order to improve the well-being of humanity as a whole,we would be better served by by eliminating the least intelligent and least healthy, to cull the herd, if you will.

Population is a HUGE problem. People in developing countries have like ten kids each and they wonder why they are starving or why they are no jobs for everyone. Condoms help with this problem and is a better alternative to abortion but it doesn't help over population to ban abortion.
