Christian - Methodist... sex views?

Just kind of curious.. I have a friend that has "Christian - Methodist" as their 'Religious Views' on facebook. I know Christians generally believe in waiting till marriage for sex... does the methodist kind of add a stronger belief in waiting till marriage for sex? I honestly know zero about what a methodist believes in or even what it is haha, but specifically I'm wondering if the 'methodist' part has anything to do with a stronger belief in waiting for sex. And no, I'm not asking for the reason you're probably thinking I am.

  • I'm not methodist, but baptist and I have to say that it just depends on how seriously the person takes their belief in God and the Bible. The blessing (and curse) that God gave to humans is that we make the choice to believe in him and follow his word to the best of our capabilities, or choose to not believe in him and carry on with our own lives. Because it is in our nature to "be human" then I really don't think that it matters what denomination you are, but how much faith, love, and hope that one has placed in both Jesus and God. I have friends that are more devout than me and they lost their virginity in their teens and I have always speculated that they became more devout after they had sex and regretted what it did to the relationship they had with the other person. What I'm trying to say, but not able to say it in few words is that it ultimately depends on the individual, regardless of denomination.

You can always try wikipedia or google to see what sets methodists apart from other denominations.

  • Im a methodist!

I can honestly say I'm one of those people you see every week at church and I love God. But I do what I please. Sex is sex. I don't think that really matters about the religion as much as just how they personally feel about it. I've done some things and well I just pray for God to forgive me if I really think it's all that bad. Many people at my church believe that sex should be saved until your married. I don't like that rule.

Don't think I really answered your question. But it's my view on it.

  • i don't think that methodist really has anything to do with waiting to have sex. I guess its kind of sad, because I am a member of a methodist church and I really can't answer your question. I love god and consider myself a christian, and I am choosing to wait until marriage, but I really don't know what the differences between the denominations are

  • Ask them. As far as Christians generally believing in waiting till marriage, most self-identified Christians don't, so you'll want some accounting of the misalignment between belief and behavior.

Also, there's a difference between knowing what "Christians think" and what any particular Christian thinks. Even if there was a unitary, authoritative source of Christian thought--there is not, nor has there ever been--you don't know how any particular Christian would interpret it, or how much they accept.

So even if you were trying to get in their pants, you would want to get their thoughts on the matter--a healthy habit to form.

  • if it feels good, they're against it

  • Why would you befriend a religious person?

    • Why would I befriend someone who simply believes in God? Well, I do too so... yea. grow up dude.

  • I'm Methodist :D

No I don't think it has anything to do with the views on sex. A Christian is a Christian no matter what type of church they go to. A sin is a sin in all churches, sins don't change from one church to another. Sex before marriage is a sin in all churches no matter what. No exceptions.

  • waiting till after marriage is Gods law. don't want to listen? I'm not the judge
