Do guys expect to have to pull out?

So, I recently had sex with my boyfriend for the first time. As I have been on pills for years, which he knew, I didn't make him put on a condom. I kinda figured that was unspoken permission to finish in me, but he pulled out at the last minute just as I was getting close to my O. I probably should have said what I wanted in advance, but my question is this. Do guys always expect to have to pull out until they are told otherwise? I'd like to hear perspectives from both sides.
I'm a guy and I pull out until told its OK.

  • I won't go unprotected but I have heard that a lot of guys pull out so they can come on the girl. They apparently get off at that. I think it's cause p*rn is screwing with people's minds.

  • I always wear a condom, but if not than I pull out unless told too. I don't want to make her pregnant if she isn't okay with it yet.

  • I never rely on just one level of protection. The only way I finish inside is if I am wearing a condom and she is on birth control. Otherwise the risks are just too great.
