Both, if I'm at home usually before I put my shirt on. If I'm leaving the gym usually after. For me the deciding factor is where my deodorant is after I shower. Pro deodorizer

It has proved that it can cause breast cancer , if they had applied it after shaving their underarms. British scientists found traces of parabens in breast tumors. Dr Kris Mc Grath of the University of Chicago too believes so because of aluminium compounds. Proper study has not yet been done what effect it can have on men's health. But the assumption is that , if it can affect women's health , it can also affect men's health to some extent.
