Does Olive Oil Work?

Okay so I like to finger myself and I want to use a lube but I can't go to the store and buy one because well I have family that I don't want to know I do this. I was thinking about using olive oil because it seems like it is all natural. What do you guys think?

  • Its not such a good idea. It may be difficult to remove, may clog pores, or may cause infection or irritation, so it is not recommended for internal use (except for eating, of course).

if you are considering this as a lube for sex, If you are using latex condoms (the most common kind) then the answer is NO.

Oil will break latex down. If you don't believe me...blow up a condom with air and tie the end. Place oil/butter etc on the outside of the condom and let it sit...POP!

If you are using non-latex condom (female condom, polyurethane male condoms) the oil will not break down the polyurethane.

BUT, the other important questions to ask is:

How will these home-made substitutions (oil, butter, etc...things not MADE for this particular use) affect the skin (mucous membranes) in our vaginas and rectums and therefore affect our vulnerability to HIV and other STIs.

We do not know enough about how these substances affect the mucosal membranes of our genital regions. We know that even douching/enema-ing (lol) with water can slough off some of the protective liquid and cells that make up the mucous membrane.

The vagina and the rectum are also very different environments and one particular "lubricant" may be OK for the rectum, but not the vagina and vice versa.

Until we have more information, it is best to use lubricants that have been tested (and those are the ones sold as personal lubricant in stores.)

  • If you're using any type of lube, avoid the oil based ones. They're not highly recommended because anything oil breaks down the condoms. You're better off with water based lube.

Why not order online (amazon is a good option) and find a good hiding place for it? Try astroglide. The water based ones. The silicone based stuff is also meh. Water based lubes of any type are highly recommended by just about every source I've read on the subject.

  • Natural oils, like olive oil (yes, you read that correctly). It is 100% natural, 100% vegan, and if you so desire you can buy 100% organic. The down side - oil weakens condoms.

All you need is about 5 drops or less.

I asked my OB and she said Olive oil was a really good lubricant and didn't have the same issues as vaseline in regards to infections.

    • She should still make sure she cleans up really well afterward though-just incase of yeast infections/upsetting ph levels etc. But I think olive oil would be fine.

    • That is common sense =\ Anything that is put up there needs to be cleaned off and such after use.

  • Go to the store w/o your family. Buy a small tube and put it in a drawer or box where you store other stuff you don't want them finding. (All girls have hidden stuff).

On note for the question, Olive oils for masterbation will work. But can have adverse effects if you do not clean properly (shower) afterward (i.e. yeast/Urinary tract infection).

I have lube and sesame oil (massage oil) and have used both on my GF. Mainly lube, but the when I massage her is on my fingers so if I touch her it can go in. It isn't toxic, but like all foreign things (lube included) if not cleaned can cause problems.

TL;DR Wash after and you'll be fine. But buying lube is best.

  • Oil tends to deaden the sensation...including baby oil.

Many people keep moisturizing lotion around the house and that will work fine. If you don't have one, buying one will be innocuous.

The larger container, low price lotions tend to be more watery, which is fine. We use "cocoa butter" lotion because it stays wet and has a moderate taste and fragrance. And since its cheap, you can use as much as you need. It also will mix with and re-wetted by your vaginal fluid.

    "Don't stay home without it!"

  • The problem with oils made of food stuffs is that it spoils, which means it can contain bacteria and mold, and other bad stuff. Olive oil in particular starts to breakdown after only 12 weeks, so it is probably a bad choice. If you're worried about family finding your lube, your best bet is to buy the lube or oil and transfer it into a container that no one would suspect. That way, you don't have to worry about hiding it.

  • I don't think it's a good idea. I really suggest at least buy a small bottle of lube and keep it well hidden

  • sincerly .. don't think its a good idea..i wanna say I have no scietifical knowledge to suport it.. but I really don't think you shoudl use that..

    dont you get wet enough?

or cnat you go out town and buy some lube and hide it ?

  • Baby oil

  • Find grape seed oil. Its great

  • buy vaseline, people use than for chapped lips and other things

  • Just buy some Asroglide at walmart and go through the self checkout if your embarrassed. It is nothing to be ashamed of...
