Durex condoms, expiry date?

I've researched this on the internet but there seems to be a lot of contradictory info out there. I've had a sexual encounter with a guy. It's not a big deal I'm just curious! He told me he never has casual sex and I asked "why do you carry condoms them?" and he said he's had them in his jacket for ages. I didn't care much whether it was the truth or not, to be honest. I'm still just really curious. In the morning, after he left, I found an empty back of a Durex condom on the floor. Expiry date is June 2014. It seems most sources state this brand has a shelf life of 4 or 5 years, meaning they were manufactured in 2009 or 2010. Of course, that doesn't say much about when they were bought as they may have been on the shelf for a long time. Especially if it's in some rural area in a store in the middle of nowhere. We live in Central London though. Has anyone bought Durex condoms recently, or knows anything about the subject? I'm just so curious!

  • There are some good condom test videos on YouTube where they stretch the opening of an unrolled one out the window of a car at speed. It's amazing how much those things can stretch. Had to be 9' wide and three feet long flapping around.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled answers. :-)

  • mine had 2015 2016 on them from this summer.

id be more concerned about them being in a jacket for 'ages'. how they are stored is what is more important.

also disregard the anti-durex guy...its how you use it like you already know.

    • Yes, I was actually concerned about that but it was about 1.30 am, we were in a hotel, and we wanted each other so I didn't want to say "oh let's just talk instead". It didn't break though. I have to admit though (and it is with shame) that the second time we didn't use a condom. I'm going to get tested soon and I'm desperately waiting for my period.

  • Generally the expiration date is around 4 or 5 years from the date of manufacture, and generally they don't sit on the shelf for an extensively long time. If the back of the package says 2014, I'd hazard a guess they're from around 2009-2010. My condoms purchased this year expire in 2017.

    • Thanks! So he didn't lie, which is a bit surprising because he's very attractive and I thought he'd get some more action.

  • 4 years sounds right.

  • I have never once had a durex condom that didn't break. Never. Once. Ever.

Trojan is the only brand that seems to hold it together.

    • All of the guys I've ever been with used Durex condoms. Always the blue ones. Maybe it's a UK thing hahaha. Also, never had one break!

    • I had one that basically ripped to shreds inside her and pieces of it remained. It caused some minor cramping problems and such for her (but she was fine a few hours after the doctor removed the pieces). She was on the pill, fortunately, so after that we just stopped using condoms altogether.

    • I've used durex almost exclusively and haven't had a break yet. Trojan is also good though.
