Well, having a pap smear done isn't enjoyable, and it's normal to feel nervous or embarrassed. It's just one of those "go in and get it over with" kind of things.
Basically what will happen in this:
Your doctor will give you a gown and instruct you to put on the gown and remove your pants and underwear, then give you some privacy to do so. When they come back, they'll have you lie down on the examination table with your butt and the very bottom edge, and put your feet up in stirrups. The doctor will sit between your legs. They will take a speculum ( link ), apply some lubrication, and insert it into your vagina. The speculum may be metal or plastic. It will be closed when they insert it, and then they open it once it is inserted so that they can visualize your cervix and take samples. The speculum might be a bit cold and will probably feel uncomfortable going in, but it isn't really painful. The doctor will insert a swab and take a scraping (sample) of your cervical cells. You will feel quite a bit of pressure when they do so, and again, it can be a bit uncomfortable as well. Then they will remove the speculum.
After the pap smear, they will probably do a bimanual pelvic exam. The doctor will insert a gloved finger into your vagina and press upward toward your belly button to feel for your ovaries. They will press on your abdomen while they do this.
After that, they will give you some tissue to wipe up with, then leave the room again so you can clean off the lubricant and put your clothes back on.2 0 0 0Thank for that amazing explanation :) ... I really appreciated.
No problem. :)
I just had my first exam and Pap smear and it honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. You feel something skinny go in and then it's a weird sensation of something rubbing around in your vagina haha, but it's just a tiny bit uncomfortable. My gyno also put a finger in while pressing down on my lower stomach to feel my uterus and ovaries (I didn't even know they could do that!). It's all pretty gentle and takes no time at all.
1 0 0 0I hope everything goes as smooth as yours. :) Thanks you.
It can be uncomfortable to have somebody looking and poking around in your lady bits, but as others have said, it's over fast and is not a big deal. I would hazard a guess that if you've been practicing safe sex and you don't have symptoms of any type, you're probably clean, but it's always good to have the peace of mind that comes from a test!
1 0 0 0Yeah if you don't it you can be 100% sure if you're and if you actually have something the sooner the better.Thank for you helping :)

Men should not get free or paid looks...besides do they know what periods feel like etc.
You sound stupid.
It isn't that bad. It's a little uncomfortable but ad long as you relax, it's not bad & it's over before you know it. It's not painful for anything like that.
HPV can only be detected with a pap smear. It's actually a very common STD. I had it, but it went away.1 0 0 0You're lucky my cousin had it twice, and hey had to get her uterus out :/ . Thank for sharing you're experience.
You're welcome. That kind of stuff always scares me. I use condoms every time now lol.
