  • A gynecologist can't tell just by looking at you if you are a virgin or not. They could see if your hymen is torn or stretched but that can happen in many ways, not just by having sex. You should tell your doctor that you are sexually active though (and they will probably ask you anyway) so they will know and can make sure you're healthy and everything is okay.

As for your parents, your doctor won't just tell your them, "she's not a virgin." That doesn't happen. For the most part, everything stays confidential between you and your doctor.

    • thank you! :)

  • No she/he cannot tell anything according to the law. However, if your parents are friends with your gynecologist he/she might say sth. So, in that case inform him/her that it should stay confidential

  • The gynecologist won't be able to tell, and they're also not allowed to tell your parents anything without your permission.

    • oh good to know, thanks :)

  • typically a doctor is going to tell your parents stuff unless it's something that is concerning your health... so sex wouldn't be a concern he'd raise to your parents... unless you have a very conservative doctor

  • They can't tell if your a virgin but they will ask you if your sexually active. You can lie to them of course.

    • don't lie. your doctor needs to know the truth. they can't tell your parents anything you don't want them to.

    • @thewanderingme ^ very true

  • Doctor-patient confidentiality wouldn't allow them to share that information without your consent, and seeing as the hymen can be torn or stretched in many other natural ways it's unlikely that they will look too deeply into it.

  • No they will not. The confidentiality between you and your gynecologist is private

  • No. They keep everything confidential unless you need medication. For example, if you have an STD, you would have to pay for the medication through insurance, which is most likely under your parents name still.

  • You can ask him/her not to, but if you're still a minor your parents will have probably signed all the forms on your behalf and waived your privacy letting him/her off the hook and subject to blabbing. Good luck on that.

  • Not that easy to tell even for a gyn. If he asks, say it happened from masturbation.
