G@G Nudist/Naturists, How do you separate sexuality from nudity?

So there are quite a few people here that claim to be some version of a "nudist". Lots of them with families and so forth. And I have always had a couple of thoughts about regarding nudity and sexuality, especially around family members and all that.

- First, to those that say "nudism doesn't have to be sexual", I say the operative part of that phrase is simply "have to" - to say that nudism is "NOT sexual" (at all) - I call bullshit.

- Second, if you *were* able to completely block the sexual element of nudity from your mind, why would anyone want to? For instance, the fact that (most) guys look at boobs, is because we don't walk around topless all the time - so there's a "mind's eye" element of mystery there.

G@G Nudist/Naturists, How do you separate sexuality from nudity?

I realize being American, maybe our culture (despite the "free love" 60s & 70's, and that there are "swingers" around) - is more uptight than some other parts of the globe. But don't try to tell me that "nudism isn't sexual (at all)" - because that makes no sense. And I don't mean that just because you see your sister naked, you are sexually "attracted" to her (assuming that you are straight) - but you can't just turn your hormones/libido completely off just because you are a nudist. And if you can, why would you want to? Being sexual is part of what makes us human. Some level of modesty (especially around people that you have no business being sexual with), is a part of that, IMHO.

Thank you to the G@G user that sent me this link, which was pretty informative:

I don't allow anon answers to my questions, but if you need to, I have the private opinions option open.

So, G@G nudists? What do you say?
Who the heck would wanna do that?

  • I am not a nudist/naturist. I was raised in a modest family and have lived that way most of my life.

For two years, I was married to a girl from Germany and both she and her daughter were fairly uninhibited about nudity in our home. My wife would walk around the house nude but she did not want me to do that around her daughter (18 years old.) Her daughter would sometimes walk around the house in her underwear, sleep topless with her bedroom door open, and would lounge around the pool nude when I was not present.

For me, the tep-daughter's nudity always led to sexual thoughts (upon which I never acted, and I never revealed those thoughts to either of them.) However, I saw my wife nude quite frequently and it did not have the same effect - perhaps because she had become a frumpy hausfrau and perhaps because I saw her nude almost every day.

I think is it impossible for non-nudists to understand how naturists/nudists respond to nudity because they, unlike us, are exposed to it so frequently. And maybe they spend time defending themselves only because they feel wrongly accused of having prurient interests.

If you really want to understand the experience, go spend a weekend at a naturist resort! :) :) :) (Just joking; I don't really think you have any interest in that experience.)

    • LOL thanks. Well if you read that article, the author does actually say that for the most part, their very similar to non-nudists when in comes to sexuality, but that because of social stigma, they are more or less forced to act as if they are less sexual about nudity than the rest of us. And yeah... I've seen half naked old wrinkly people on a beach, and I get that point... but there are people here that are in their teens and twenties that claim to be nudist... and those are NOT old/wrinkly bodies. :)

    • Maybe you SHOULD go after you recover from your graduation gift! It might give you a tremendous ego boost! (And maybe that explains why some of the hard bodies advocate for naturism.)

    • Not ruling it out. ;)

  • I agree with the author of the article. I think nudists have sexual feelings about people they see nude about as often as people in textile culture do when they see people in clothing. I don't think you can deny that if you see a guy that you're attracted to over and over while clothed that you still find that person attractive over time. While novelty may wear off, attraction doesn't. I feel like nudism has modernized their views on sexuality a lot more with the latest generation of nudists. You see fewer resorts baring single men, less restrictions on contact (kissing, putting sunscreen on each other, etc). The movement I think took the position of "we're not sexual at all" as a way to try to legitimize itself, and I think its now realizing that that is part of what scares some people away. They feel like it would almost be more repressive than clothed culture. I'm still not a fan of swingers clubs trying to fall under the nudist umbrella- I think that, like in textile culture, sexual activity should remain in private in nudist culture. The line is getting blurry, but I'm OK with that.

  • I'm not doubting that seeing someone your attracted to nude isn't sexual, it is. I think nudists and naturalists want the freedom to not wear clothing when society doesn't allow us to do that, maybe breaking the rules like a "taboo" turns them on or just makes them happy live how they want? Guys can walk shirtless, but girls can't, and I know girls notice those buff men at the beach, but why then can't women walk shirtless too?

You mentioned seeing Family members naked, there are some families in the US that don't wear clothes in the house, but you rarely hear of it because society tells us it's taboo. However; you brought up and interesting thought. If being nude is sexual, will a brother find his sister attractive, will a father find his daughter sexually appealing, and so on... do we control our urges due to laws, or would people eagerly incest family members?

    • well, Im not suggesting that people make the leap to "incest" - but thinking that its a switch you can just turn off because you're "not supposed to look" - I think is ridiculous. As far as the beach, that is an entirely different setting, and is pretty common for women to lay out topless (but not naked) in many places.

  • We go to clothing optional beaches, resorts and other functions with our friends that are either nudist or accepting of clothing optional activities. Its not that we are "assexual" or not interested in sex, but the sight of a nude body is no different than a clothed body, ie no big deal.

We have the same sexual desires as when we where our clothing, but just because we are nude or simi-undressed doesn't mean we are going to have sex. I can tell if a man is attractive to me when he is dressed and when he is nude, either way my thoughts are the same.

  • I think a lot about this question too being a nudist. I think a lot of visitors to nude beaches that instead see it as a way of being a sexual exhibitionist as I've seen a bit of sex and bjs on nude beaches.
For me being naked outdoors is about comfort and avoiding tan lines.

    • I love feeling the sun on my body. It's such a pleasant feeling.

    • like the sex idea

    • Yes agree with you on being free and open I to do not like tan lines

  • I wouldn't do it myself, but I'm not against those who are nudists!

    • Thank you for posting

  • I have a close friend that her family are nudists.

Saying there is not a sexual angle is a total fallacy.

She told me there is more sex going on there than a sex club. People are more open about it and some pretty young/old sex goes on...

I dont want to say more coz I would be violating GAG policy..

    • Can you message me to chat more?

    • Wow so sad

  • I voted no because family nudism is creepy, you can’t tell me no one ever looks at teenagers in those places and thinks she’s developing nicely or wow he’s going to be hung like his Dad.

I do however think it would be cool to go to an adults only anything goes type nudist place if one exists where it’s all about exhibitionism and voyeurism and public sex.

  • from what I understand of nudists/naturalists, they are the people who usually SHOULD NOT BE SEEN NAKED. So eliminating sexuality from the nudity shouldn't be difficult. That said, if I saw an attractive naked guy strolling down the beach, I would most certainly get a little twitch in my nether regions. ;)

    • haha well if you get a chance, read the article, its about "young" nudists (under 35).

    • Im a wannabe nudist. U should me naked and say that again *awkward wink*

    • It's not about showing off your amazing body. Truth be told, there is always a mix of people. Some of the bodies are young and great, but there are also lots of old tubbos.
