Girls taking their own virginity?

While out for a run/jog with a girl who is a friend of a friend (nothing more than that...yet) we got to talking about sex. One thing lead to another and she told me that she took her own virginity with a sex toy, "just to get it done with and so that it would be on her terms, not some guys, in the heat of the moment" Is this common... do other girls do it? Guys and girls what are your thoughts. I guess she is technically a virgin because no penis has been inside her, which still makes me hope that we will be more than friends who go for a few runs together. I am all for sex toys, but I never thought of them as a tool for a girl to take her own virginity.Thanks for your comments.

A girl can only lose her virginity by having sex with someone.

She can tear her hymen by accident (or by sports, jumping, ballet, horseback riding, by tampons or because a doctor needs to insert a speculum) or she can be born without one or with a symbolic rim instead of the nearly closed hymen some girls have. Some drawings: link

Thus the hymen can be gone way before she dates her first guy.

IMHO, a doctor should routinely open any girl's hymen at birth. It would put girls on par with guys and with girls having only a symbolic hymen. Equality.

if all the girls want to break the virginity and think that by putting toys inside will do it and gives them satisfaction then that would be better as this will keep a control on girls having too many sexual partners

You can't lose your virginity to a sex toy. You can lose your hymen, which many girls believe is a part of their virginity. Medically, you can lose your hymen for many reasons-through vigourous activities like horseback riding, or even through a tampon.

The hymen is actually broken by accident in a lot of cases. I've never heard of this behavior but it's not far-fetched.

Penetration doesn't equal breaking virginity. It's the consensual, sexual encounter with another person that determines that.
