Girls, what causes a fishy smell down there?

My wife has had a fishy smell only a couple of times but I was wondering what would cause it. She is a very clean person, and I know it wasn't hygene.

  • Well if she's TOO clean, she can strip all the needed bacteria which leaves it considerable to infections. Also, if she's using harsh soaps that can also play a huge role in it. This is normally a temporary thing, but it can sometimes lead to an actual infection that needs treatment. It can also be caused by not getting enough air, so for the future, suggest that she sleep without undies :)

So if it lasts for more than a week, you should let her know politely that she doesn't smell the same and that you read somewhere that using normal soaps might cause infections. She can always check by buying a test at the drugstore. I'm not sure if she'd be able to feel or smell the difference due to a lack of personal experience, so let her know!

    Google it!

  • She might have bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection like thrush either of which can be caused after sex, simple things like not having a shower after sex. Both are very easily diagnosed and cured and they can just come and go, but untreated can cause some uncomfort and itching. Neither are dangerous so if it persists she should go to the doctor and s/he will prescribe her medication to clear it up and advice to prevent it happening in the future.

  • Um maybe a slight yeast infection? It doesn't mean she wasn't clean [sometimes being too clean triggers it!] but most women do get them a few times throughout their lives.Or maybe it was just her flora changing. The smell usually varies with the menstrual cycle too.

  • She should go to a dr. You should be talking to her about it. There are infections. I really go back to you need to talk to her and a dr.

  • Could be a bacterial or yeast infection (most common among women), they're actually pretty normal and can be treated fairly quickly..Its really nothing to worry about most go away in a month or so, if it precedes she should go get it checked out. Ask her about it, especially if she's your wife..dont ask people on here.

  • Your wife? Are you f***ing serious? I feel sorry for her because its obvious you don't know much about womens bodies. Hows the sexlife by the way?
