Giving up sex for lent?

So I'm thinking about giving up sex for lent. I want to give up something I absolutely love to do and something I feel would be difficult to give up. I don't know how to run the idea by my boyfriend though.

  • You have the right to give up whatever you want!
Belgie has a good point. You are making a decision for him. It is voluntary for you and involuntary for him but if he decides he wants to continue to have sex outside of you, then so be it! You don't need a man like that in your life anyways but he is your boyfriend so hopefully he cares enough to support what you want.

No matter what decision we make in life someone else will ALWAYS be affected. Just let him know when you too have sex again it will be more passionate.

The guy I'm seeing gave up sex for Lent. I'm Muslim, I fast for Ramadan so it was a bit shocking for me. He was like "you're going to kill me, aren't you?" "I know you're mad" "I'm sorry" but he shouldn't be sorry for what he wants and believes and I shouldn't be mad. Yes, it's a bit disappointing but I have so much respect for it. I understand how hard it can be and having someone to tempt you into doing something you're trying to give up isn't right. I fasted from sex for Ramadan and the guy that I was seeing at that time tempt me to have sex with him.. I did it.. and we never spoke again (after 3 months of dating). I will not do this to my current guy though. I will be fully supportive and hopefully when lent is over, we'll have the best sex yet!! I look forward to that.

Challenges are fun. They show you that whatever you put your mind to, you can do. Good luck sweety! Hang tight. Your boyfriend will be supportive of you.

    sincerely, Dee

  • you should do it if you want to :) there is no rule saying you HAVE to have sex with your boyfriend... and if he thinks so then he musnt love you very much, he shouldn't care if he's getting sex or not if he loves you. so if giving up sex is important to you then I think you should do it, it's your body afterall.

  • you can't give something up that affects other people.

  • The thing is, sex is a two way street. You're basically making the decision for him as well, that he would give up sex for lent.

This is a bit selfish, no?

How would you feel if he said that he wasn't giving up sex, and would find it with someone else while you were abstaining?

The deliberate with-holding of sex, for any spurious voluntary reason (and this is voluntary) is a direct attack on the relationship itself.

If you don't know this, you don't know anything.

  • I kind of laughed out loud at the last sentence. It was a perfect set up.

Pick something you know you can finish. Its better to chose something doable and finish it than to chose something difficult and fail it. You will hurt your relationship with your boyfriend and god.

  • Just be prepared to have one highly pissed off boyfriend hahahaha

  • Always nice to see how people make decisions in relationships that affect both all on their own without talking to their partner.

  • You should talk to him about it because I bet he's not gonna like the idea lol

    • Girl: so I was thinking about giving up sex for lent. What do you think about that? >:-( *leaves* Girl: Oh darn

    • He wouldn't leave, I don't thibk he would at least. Well there's oral or giving hj so that could be a substitute to the actual thing. Or is that grouped into the no sex for lent thing? Hmm..

  • I think you're supposed to give up something you actually have.

  • breakup

  • Give up sex with men... then tell your boyfriend for lent your giving up sex with men but your still able to have sex with women, and allow him to watch. You'll still get your pleasure and your boyfriend will be happy to watch :p

    • Lol I like the idea but my boyfriend consideres it cheating unless he's in it

  • ...condition your mouth for a LOT of bjs...

  • LMAO this must be the pinnacle of irony.

  • One of the reasons why I thank god every day..that I'm not Christian. I could never give up sex or anything else for 40 days. I'm good with giving up food and drink for a day. That's fair enough (have you guessed what religion I am)
