Holding your breath during sex? why?

I've noticed that when girls are really enjoying themselves during sex, they start breathing hard and then they hold their breath and pound faster. What does it do actually? does the lack of oxygen enhance pleasure somehow? Why stop breathing? Me (a guy) personally controlling my breath is the only thing allowing me to maintain my erection and hold everything in because If I lose focus on breath it's game over. I ask because I've had a girl complain of headache after sex, which I'm trying to figure out the reasons for.

  • Yeah I do find myself taking a deep breath and holding it in before I reach my peak. And yes, I think it's true that the lack of oxygen does intensify one's pleasure. I once read a nonfiction forensics book and it mentioned a small story of this guy that would always hang himself with a noose just prior to passing out while masterbating.     But when I'm not testing out this theory, I find myself holding in my breath instinctively. I think it might be a way for me to concentrate on what's happening down there without the annoying panting. And yes like another commentor said, taking a deep breath is also for a particular intense short moment of speeding up and being more rough.

  • I would put it differently. When I am giving oral, whether it is down there or I am sucking on her breasts, I CANNOT breath. Even if I try to, I feel like I am choked. I want her to get off within my breath because if she doesn't and I have to take a breath, I often breaks my tempo and it has the potential to spoil the moment.
