Ask him if he was pierced... If it's a big hole then he probably had or has a large gauge ring in there... Yes, "it's a thing"... People do it.

It definitely isn't a piercing. He told me he's never had a piercing and he's no reason to lie as i've tats and piercings yet he's none. He doesn't even know what a gauge is, he isn't alternative. Ahh... The only thing I can think of is some type of minor birth defect... But that kind of thing is definitely not common as you might guess from most of the responses here. Your right, the wise thing would probably not be to ask him about it, he's probably self conscious about it as it is.
