even I sometimes get a bit arouse at looking at a hot girl, and you might be able to tell, but first you need to see how big the bump in my shorts is before, but if I was completely erect and wearing short, you would be able to tell with out a doubt, you would see a big outline ;)

A boner will be pushing hard against the guys' pants, away from his body, and will be really noticeable. Think average size banana held straight out, that your one hand could barely wrap all the way around, or that would maybe make your jaw a little sore if you were to open your mouth that wide.
