In all seriousness maybe try talking about it hypothetically? Or just ask him about things he prefers generally in women and work your way...down there. Talking about that stuff is always going to be a bit awkward so there's not really a real genteel way to bring it up. You'll certainly have his attention though!
First, you should be discussing something about sex. Then you can just say how you like his pubic hair and ask him whether if he would prefer it chaved, trimeed or natural.
If you are willing to show a guy what you have "down there", it's safe to assume that the two of you will be intimate. Consider this: if you are in a situation where you are having sex with someone, you should feel comfortable enough to ask them about their preferences. Communication is the key to a healthy relationship, sexual or otherwise. If you are too embarrassed to ask him, you may not be ready to be in a sexual relationship with him.
