It's pretty common for guys to (at least try to) do that, but it's not something that happens every time or is the inevitable result of making out. Usually you can just tell by body language and it's often the first sexual contact a couple has because it's the least exposing.
The other way around seems less common, I think girls in general seem to doubt their hj skills and some guys make it too obvious that she's never going to be as good at it as he is even though he's enjoying her try anyway.
Yeah, it's common, in some ways. Cause with me/us, we start making out, next: touch our bodies, then: move our body parts together, finally: we notice the erection/vagina and begin to rub. If you have the time that's where it will obviously lead. Yet sometimes when we want to mess around, she tells me "your not taking anything out alright" so we don't always do it. But its ok.
In my opinion this is very common/normal yet I don't believe it should happen in every make out session. You don't want your foreplay to become so routine that there's no surprise in your relationship. There are too many other GREAT sexual ways to arouse your partner to stick with the basics!
It's not all that common and for good reason too . If you get fingered all the time it gets boring and you don't get as excited by it after a while . So if you can help it, use the hand job or let him finger you only every once and while to keep things fresh .
