How to make buying condoms less awkward

It's so awkward because I feel like people are judging me. I'm 18 but I don't look it. I've always looked younger than my age most people think I'm like 15 or 16. Even so why do most adults look so judgmental when they see a young person buying condoms? They had to do it so why do they give dirty looks? They were having sex when they were our age. I feel awkward about getting tampons when it's a guy cashier. Anyway most of the stores close by don't have a self check out and the one that does have one doesn't have it open except during the busy time of day.

  • Make the guy buy condoms lol. I remember when I first bought them. It was a trial run to get used to it haha. There was a ton of older ladies around it was awkward but whatever lol. Or you know that like the health department or like your school gives them out for free right? When I learned that my college gave them out I stocked up and I still go back there even though I graduated haha.

  • Well, if it's awkward because of how you feel, then simply stop feeling that way. It's your mind: control it. Take the reigns. Don't let your imagination tell you what to do - there's more than enough reality that needs attention. Wasting it all on fantasy will only result in a life of paranoid ignorance. Don't do it!

    • oh, another option is they sell condoms in vending machines in some gas station bathrooms...

  • Girl, just BUY IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT. SLAM THAT SHIT ON THE COUNTER.

Hahaha forget anyone who gives you dirty looks for it. I respect you for having safe sex, at least. And any guy cash register can get over it when you buy tampons...dont be nervous or feel weird. They will have to deal with knowing about tampons and seeing them when they have a girlfriend, wife, or daughter.

  • I recently had the same experience. I just made small talk with the cashier and bought a pack of cigarettes (I dont smoke, just to show my ID so the cashier knew). Even at that I learned that I can just buy condoms there all the time I walk it grab a box and pay for it. I dont see a problem at least you aren't buy diapers and formula.

  • You need to stop worrying what others are thinking. What you are purchasing is perfectly legal and fine, so be proud, stand tall, hand the clerk the box, pay for them, say "have a nice day" and leave. Any oldlady's staring at you turn and tell them your getting f*cked tonight "are you"!

  • Yea, buying condoms shouldn't be a problem. It shows the cashier that you're not going going to end up knocked up and having your life forever altered, and/or taking meds for your herpes outbreaks for the rest of your life.

Condoms are a good thing, just get over it.

  • Buy them online.

  • I once walked in to wallgreens with cat ears on and a man on a leash to buy condoms. if you haven't done that then you should be alright

  • I was a cashier and I never thought anything of it. If anything I try to NOT make it awkward. it's probably because the older women see you as being their daughter or sons age, which may seem inappropriate to them. If you get what I'm trying to say.

  • Some would say that if you aren't comfortable buying condoms, you aren't ready to be having sex.

Believe it or not, nobody will be judging you when you are buying condoms. Most people have had plenty of sex and have respect for anyone smart enough to actually buy and use condoms.

If for some reason someone does say something or give you a dirty look, just say something like "They're for my Dad." That will freak them out and I bet they'll turn really red!

  • Act like you own the building. Be serious. Like a boss. haha

  • lol whenever I buy condoms or lube the cashier usually looks way more embarrased then me, or even slightly intrigued. iam not embarassed at all. nothing wrong with wanting to play things safe, and wanting things to go smoothly.

  • I bought them along with a few other things so it wasn't awkward. I just acted like it was an every day thing

  • If you can't manage to buy yourself condoms then you shouldn't have sex.. I could not care les what cashiers think of me or what I buy

  • Buy some other things along with the condoms so that it does not seem quite as awkward as it would if you just bought the condoms. That way the cashier will pay less attention to the condoms since they are not the only thing you are checking out.

  • Honestly, they are probably a little jelly because you are getting laid and they are not.

  • Cashiers don't care. They see everything. Would you rather be buying pregnancy tests?
