I wonder why you would even be asking the question. One has to reach an extremely low weight for that to happen. A healthy weight, in relation, is approximately 50% more than whatever that number is (So, a girl who is 90 lbs., should really be 135 minimum, etc.) So, if you are flirting with the question at all, PLEASE, stop starving yourself, and go eat something!
1 0 0 0I'm not starving myself. I weigh 102 lbs. Last month I was 103 and everything was normal. I eat normal.
Just noticed your added comment. You are still very young. In a few years, you will worried about the extra pounds, I'm certain. What does your doctor have to say? Have you discussed it with him?
I eat between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. Is that not normal? Keep in mind that I've always been small. I'm not tall and have a narrow frame.

It very likely varies from person to person but going by BMI, I'd say if you're in the underweight category you have a better chance of losing your period…keeping in mind this isn't something you want to happen. You'd probably have to be under 17 on the table. But I've been at 16.6 and still had my period.
1 0 0 0I'm 17.5 And obviously it's a bad thing. I'm going to the doctor if it isn't here by Monday.
Sorry, I didn't meant for it to sound like I was accusing you of anything. That's good you're seeing your doctor though. Hope it shows up!
No, you seemed way more educated than a lot of people on this subject. I was just telling you what my BMI was in case it helped you.
I used to be very sick and my period stopped for months and months. I had been about 90 lbs and went down from 68-85 all at which my period stopped. My body had to deal with other issues due to loss of blood and malnutrition. No blood to give away.
0 0 0 0I don't no about under, but when I was severely over weight mine would come about every 3 months, and stayed on for a month. When I lost weight, it became regular again.
0 0 0 0Wow that sounds a lot like me. I never knew weight had anything to do with it.
Yes it has a lot to do with it. I didn't know at first until I went to doctor because it stayed on 2 months straight. He thought I was pregnant and made me take pregnancy test. when that came back negative, he drew blood and everything came back fine. So he gave me some pills that they give some mothers whos cycle stay on to long after birth, and put me on a diet to see if that will make it regular again. I was scared and took him seriously and lost 50lb and it's been normal ever sense, but I still need to lose a lot more. I was 263 and now I'm 212.
@charismatic110 forgot to @ you, but that was for you

6 3Why? That is so unhealthy. Don't do it.
0 0 3 0It's not like I did it on purpose.
Okay, I'm sorry! There was no context. Usually when people are very underweight it's because of something they are doing to themselves on purpose. I should never assume... Again, sorry that I offended you and two other people.
I hope you get well soon.
I don't think weight has anything to do with your period.
0 0 4 0It does.
Well maybe it will make it lighter but it won't stop completely if you're underweight
It has a lot to do with it. If you get skinny enough, your period will stop.
it won't stop if u r underweight basically
0 0 2 0Oh, it definitely will. My girlfriend was anorexic and hers would stop a year at at time.
Weight? Didn't know that had a correlation with menopause
0 0 5 0It's not menopause. -_- This is a serious question. You can stop menstruating if you're not heavy enough. It's a defense mechanism because you don't have the body fat to provide for a child.
What does weight have to do with anything period related?
0 0 4 0It has everything to do with it! When the body can no longer spare any more fat, it stops, until she gains some weight back. i have known several girls like this.
@sobg71124 ok and that's why I was asking..
What? I didn't know you could stop it.
0 0 0 0It's not a good thing lol it's bad. My friend got super skinny and hers stopped for 6 months and now she's afraid she's infertile.
Wtf. That is fucked up
I have never heard of it causing infertility. My girlfriend who did not menstruate for up to a year at a time for eight years, has had several children since.
I started getting mine like every other month, every third month when I was 5 pounds undewreight.
0 0 0 0I'm overweight and I don't have periods. They stopped in January
2 0 0 0Being too overweight usually won't make your period stop. Did you get your period less than a year ago?
*for the first time less than a year ago
I'm almost 24 and I've been having periods since I was 10. They just stopped in January and I gained a crap ton of weight with it. Being bigger can affect your period. Weight loss can regulate them. I've already discussed this with my doctor
no thats a myth and unhealthy to do.
0 0 4 0It is not a myth. I have known anorexic woman to stop menstruating for years at a time. The body simply cannot spare any extra fat loss.
