You can start by approaching to him. Start a conversation, and se if he is interested in taking to you. It's a good sign if he is.

If you are making excuses just to be around him, or creating situations where you two can have fun together without much interruption (not like a date, but may be just one or two friends that come with you), he will probably realize that you are interested in him.
