1. A bad dream is not good for anyone but especially about being raped is one of the worst.
2. Dreams are triggered generally by various factors that go on in our lives, consciousness and subconsciousness.
3. Dreaming about being raped however, can mean various things (though you haven't asked, I think you mean to?)
3.1 someone you know being raped or something you read about rape that has had a deep effect on you.
3.2. can mean loss of self esteem or power in some way that you have experienced
3.3. you may like experiencing rape or someone being raped etc (not in your case though) - yes there are women who love rape on them or others
3.4. Rape is an act of personal violation and betrayal. It robs the victim of power, and confidence. To dream of something like this means that you have felt some of these emotions recently (as in point 3.2.)
3.5. If you've been or feel betrayed you may wind up dreaming of being raped
Don't blame your boyfriend for not understanding, most of us won't :)
Most guys would probably brush it off and say it's just a dream, go back to bed without thinking.
Dreams can be pretty vivid and nearly realistic in the sense we feel like it actually happened.
I'm sorry that you had that experience I'm sure it was terrifying. You didn't overreact and maybe tell your boyfriend that if it were to happen again he could do a better job in comforting you to help you fall asleep.
You weren't over-reacting at all. I myself have had countless really vivid dreams, including a handful of different rape scenarios, but I've never been raped. Rape is not something funny, nor should it be laughed about or brushed to the side. The fear that you feel in that moment(in the dream) is something you can't really compare to, if that makes sense. I don't think guys will ever really understand how girls feel when it comes to rape, rape dreams, etc. I can only hope that should I have a dream like that again that I have a man that understands enough to comfort me. I'm sorry he wasn't there to comfort you when you needed it :( hugs!
Its hard to truly understand something you have never experienced.
He is probably thinking, its only a dream.
Dreams can be really scary as they really feel like real life.
Tell your boyfriend you feel sad he didn't support you a bit more with how scared you felt.
Remind yourself that too its is only a dream and the rape didn't happen in the dream or real life.
To get really angry with your boyfriend will be overreacting and push him away.
But to be scared of any kind of dream you have is not overreacting.
Yes of course.Even I will feel bad and traumatic to get back to sleep if I were the one who experienced this.He doesn't understand because he thinks you are being immature for over thinking about a dream that did not happen in your real life.Rape dream isn't funny or cool at all.
