I haven't had my period for nearly four months! Why?

So I have been complaining to my mum for awhile because I haven't had my period for four months starting in 7 days. When it's the usual time I get my period I get the normal pains but nothing happens and I also randomly get pains during the month. Is this normal? And no I am NOT sexually active and never have been! (⇀‸↼‶) *tries to decide whether or not to put is under sexual health or heath and fitness*

  • That's nothing to worry about if you just started getting your period. When you first start, a lot of times your body just has to get adjusted to the new hormone production and you will skip over periods. I knew a girl (when I first got mine) who said she'd gotten hers and then a year passed and she still hadn't had it again. It could also be stress related. I only missed my period once when I was younger (before I became sexually active) and it was entirely due to stress. I believe I was about 15.

So don't worry! It's entirely normal! If you're that concerned you could always go see a gynecologist but trust me, those are very unpleasant visits. :|

  • If you're not sexually active and there's no chance that you're pregnant, then your lack of a period points to a health problem. It could be that you're malnourished or low in certain nutrients, or there may be something else going on. You need to talk to a doctor right away, so that you can figure out what's happening as soon as possible. At your age, it's normal to have a somewhat irregular period, but over four months without one is concerning. I'm surprised your mom hasn't taken you to the doctor yet. Ask her to do so, and tell her it's important.

    • She's taking me to the doctor this Tuesday. She told me that it was normal to have irregular period but when I told her that I'm still getting the pains she got a bit worried and said I might have to get a scan or something like that

    • Irregular is normal, but four months is quite a while. It's good that you're going to the doctor.

    • Because of some other problem I have to get examined by a female doctor (〃>_<;〃) So I'm really nervous about going... I'm such an awkward potatoe

  • When did you first start to have your period? For the first year or so you can be very irregular. Additionally, depending on your BMI and body type, your body might decide "hey we can't handle a baby right now."
If six months pass and you still haven't had your period, you should talk to a gynecologist.

  • Tough choice on the category indeed, I think Health is more suitable though. XD

But as for your question, I'm not knowledgeable in this, but I have known of women who didn't really have much when it came to their periods.

Seeing one of yall's "Lady's doctors" would be my advice to ya though.

    Be well miss. : )

    • yeah thanks :) I'm actually already seeing a lady doctor this Tuesday for something else but I'm always soooo embarrassed to go to them or even talk about this sort of stuff

  • Are you very thin? If so, that will stop your cycle.

    • I am thin but I can't seem to change that... -_-

    • You're oversimplifying it a bit. Don't freak her out. Being thin won't stop your cycle. Being undernourished and ill can stop your cycle.

    • @samhradh_leannan I'm not oversimplifying at all. Lots of very thin women - women with low percentage of fat on their bodies - will stop cycling. I've known some and they are healthy, just thin.

  • It's not normal, it really depends if you've been depriving your body, usually you won't have a period if you're not treating your body right.

  • If you've been sexually active then you really need to get checked out!

    • I'm only 14 so I haven't been

    • I know plenty of people who were having sex at 12-14 years old. So age has nothing to do with it

  • I sure think your mom needs to take you to the doctor young lady.

I changed the topic to 'Sexual Health'

    • Thank you, young lady for your kind, generous, thoughtful and charming gesture of selecting my opinion the MHO :) <3 Trust and hope you did see the doctor and all is well now :)

    • yeah I went to the doctor and all is good now :)

  • You're more than likely still very irregular.. Perhaps a visit to your Doctor/GP will help put your mind to rest.

  • Have you been stressed lately or been taking any new medications? That may affect it too.

    • well 'm not really sure when there's a time when I'm not stressing over something lol

    • I can totally understand that lol I just know intense levels of stress can mess with your period

    • yeah
