If you poop a lot, does that mean you have a fast metabolism?

This is what I heard, that people who regularly go to the bathroom right after they eat have fast metabolisms.

  • It generally takes 20-40 hours for food to be digested (from the time it enters your mouth to the time it makes it's exit). Eating, however, can stimulate a bowel movement. It's not likely that you are pooping out the meal that you just ate.

    Pooping frequently can be the result of a number of things: how efficient your digestive system is, the amount of food you eat, the types of food you eat (i.e. fibre content), or it could mean that your body isn't fully digesting the food that you eat (either because it has low nutritional value, or it could be due to a medical condition).

  • It usually means that what you have consumed was not completely useable by your body.

    If you take really large bowel movements, or have them often, it means that you consumed something that didn't have a ton of nutitional value.

    If they float its a sign of a high fat diet.

    If it smells its usually from eating a lot of red meat.

  • I'm not sure... I have a really slow metabolism, but I poop at least once a day. I think it has more to do with how much fiber you eat. A high-fiber diet can also increase your metabolism, so maybe that's why metabolism and pooping seem related.

  • It just means you have a faster digestive system, not that you body necessarily is metabolizing the nutrients/ calories from your food any faster.

  • I don't think so I used to be really skinny so you could see my ribcage and stuff and eat like a pig

    but I used to go every 3-4 days
