Is my semen too acidic?

My girlfriend has been telling me that whenever I ejaculate inside of her, my semen causes a burning sensation in her vagina. She has been having problems with recurring yeast infections and painful sex for a few months, and after we pinpointed that sex is typically only painful when I don't use a condom we started thinking she might have a semen allergy. However, I have had a few instances where when I masturbate the tip of my penis will start to burn after I finish (most likely because of the semen). I assume these to be related. Does this mean my semen is too acidic? And what can I do to lower the acidity so I don't have this problem anymore? Thanks!

  • I really doubt your semen is too acidic. One of the purposes of semen is to provide a non-acidic carrying fluid for the sperm. (That's also one of the functions of pre-cum: to neutralize the urethra from the acidity of any residual urine. I think it's possible you've caught a yeast infection from your girlfriend. That happened to me once, and I had a burning sensation on my penis. I went to the student health center and they diagnosed me with a yeast infection and prescribed a cream. My girlfriend at the time also had to get treated, 'cause we were in a cycle of reinfecting each other after I caught the infection from her.

    • thanks for MH Guy opinion!

  • i wouldn't think it's acidity. i think the yeast infection could be an issue but as for you feelign the burning when you masturbate i'd wonder if perhaps if one or both of you have a urinary tract infection. do you guys have any burning or painful sensations when urinating?

  • Semen is supposed to be basic to neutralize the acidic vagina for sperm to survive. If it was only her, she may have a semen allergy but, since you also feel it, it sounds like some chemical is being excreted in your semen causing a burning sensation. Bring it up with your doctor and they will run some tests to see what it is.

I suppose, depending on how often you have sex, it could be some sort of friction burn and micro tears in the skin, maybe take a break and start up again in a week?

  • ... vaginas are an acidic environment. So no, your semen is not too acidic. If that were the case, your balls would basically be no more as the acidity would have reached close to corrosive levels.

The burning sensation may come about as a result of chafing if your girlfriend doesn't produce enough lubrication, hence why the tip of your penis gets sore as well. Either that, or some sort of infection. Either way, I'm almost 100% sure that it's not because your semen is 'too acidic'.

  • If she has a yeast infections then she's probably passed it on to you too that's why it's hurting you too now.

Surprisingly men can get a thrush too!

I think you guys should cool on the sex until she's completely clear of her yeast infections and has a taken the anti-fungal meds, and her body has completely flushed everything out of her body. Which is probably longer than a week - just because the symptoms go away does't mean the infection has left the body.

    • "Thrush infection in men most commonly affects the head of the penis and is known as candidal balanitis" Check it out :)

  • You may have an STI. No matter what the problem is from go to a doctor.

  • Get checked by a doctor to be sure.

  • as long as your semen is not burning through condoms then its all ok.

  • She is lying like I have a headache excuse

  • It won't be because your acidic as it'd burn you all the time then as it's inside you. Have you been tested for sti's? Uti?

  • I never heard of this but anything is possible, but what are you supposed to do? start eating baking soda to neutralize it?
