Is plan b harmful to the body if taken frequently?

I have taken the plan b over 10 times in my life. I would already say I have taken it three times this year. Does this pill have any long term effects? I feel bad about what I am doing..I am already thinking about stopping sex altogether or using birth control/and condoms. ](all times condoms broke.)

  • I imagine it would. It's something that should be a 1 time type of thing.

I don't want to be the preaching type, but common sense would say, after the 1st time of having to use Plan B, one would I dunno, use multiple forms of birth control. Perhaps you should invest in birth control as well as properly fitting condoms and learn HOW to put condoms on and find the proper size. They shouldn't break if you're using them properly. Millions of people use them without them breaking, so there's no excuse

I imagine if you're "25 to 29" you're actually a teenager under a disguised profile. No one can be this stupid.

    • It is wise for one to learn how to give advice without bringing others down. That is what this site is intended for. Maybe in all actuality you are the teenager, because of your immature ways. I am 25 I just turned it last month. I am asking this question out of courtesy and because I cannot find any reasonable answers while browsing the net. I truly do feel horrible about taking it so many times,it is to the point where I am seriously going to stop having intercourse altogether.

    • I'm 17 year old, a virgin, and have enough common sense to know that multiple forms of birth control should be used when having sex to help prevent pregnancy, as well as STDs(in that case, testing should is required, as well as a barrier). It's all common sense was my point. Sorry if I offended you for lacking it.

    • Everyone knows what they should do to prevent pregnancy but in all reality do we really all take the necessary precautions? Everyone knows that they should do their homework or else they will fail class, but do they? Everyone knows they shouldn't smoke cigarettes because it can increase your chance in developing cancer, but don't they? The fact of the matter is, we all have the necessary tools in what we should and shouldn't do. But we still do it. This is life. No one is perfect. Maybe because

  • what is plan b exactly? is it an OTC emergency contraceptive pill? if so, the main adverse effects are breast tenderness and also a heavier or lighter bleed in your next period. I heard that the more often you use it the less effect it becomes... so you shouldn't rely on it every time you have sex.

Why don't you go on the contraceptive pill?

    • Yes, it's the morning after pill.

    • I am considering that, thank you.

    • Thank you :)

    • No problem. But definitely think about getting on the pill or using another form of contraception. The pill is more effective than Plan B.

    • Thanks for your advice. I am truly considering this.

  • It's pretty harmful the way it works, I had my ex girlfriend take it one time and still regret it. Go on the pill for the best option or have sex with a guy you trust, who uses a condom AND pulls out, because condoms do break (and I would not trust many guys)

    • You are so correct. I started re-evaluating myself when I took it multiple times this year. Before then I hadn't taken it in the past 2/3 years. I seriously feel bad and will make an appointment with my dr. a.s.a.p to get on birth control.

  • I wouldn't think it is very healthy. Definitely consider another option

    • Thanks :)

  • I would imagine so babe since they make a point of warning that it isn't supposed to be used as regular birth control.

If you're going to be sexually active, be so responsibly. Get on birth control and use condoms. Damn I'm a virgin and even I know that.

    • Exactly. It's common sense. And of course she thumbs down the answers which tell her the TRUTH. Truth hurts sometimes(sure that may make me a bitch for saying so)

    • Obviously you've invested too much time studying sex and not enough on your grammar. Go back to school if you have the opportunity to. You might actually have the potential to become a productive member of society, until then stfu and remain anonymous.

    • I can deal with the truth but when people have to be a total asshole when trying to give "advice" that's another thing.

  • I don't think it has any harmful effect, but they say you shouldn't take more than one every menstrual cycle. They can disturb it. It's not BAD like sterilisation, but it's still not healthy either.

If possible, I would go on birth control.

    • Ive taken it over the course of 5 years to clear things up, not all at once.
