You might feel like you're selling your dignity, but in reality, the club management would never compromise your dignity. The day they do that, is the day they lose all their female employees. (subsequently losing their entire business). Management is usually pretty good about keeping your real identity private.

Sure, the job might get a bad rep., but strippers are not prostitutes. You don't sell "sex," but rather, you "use" sex to sell "exotic dances." Exotic dancers are paid a fee to dance, and that's all. The nature of the transaction is, "$ for dance." (period - emphasis added). To be honest, it's amazing to watch the skill of some of these women, especially on the pole; it's almost like going to a circus, only this is a circus for bigger kids. Or even moves that people might think look easy, but are really a pain-in-the-@ss and very technical, like Barbie legs, etc.

Honestly? Why would a guy that's not insecure have a problem with his girlfriend being a stripper?

WTF? Who the f*** does he think he is? Strippers don't have pimps, so his machismo ego that was never satisfied in high school as a little boy should chill. He's free to make his own money and earn it, without him having to pay you or owe you any royalties. Similarly, you're free to make your own money and earn it, without having to pay him any royalties. If he's a loser and can't stack his own paper, then she better find a way to make some, rather than find excuses to "take" some from you.
Hopefully you're no longer with that guy.
The profession itself isn't particularly wrong; if it upsets you that you had to go to such means I'm very sorry that it came to that albeit there's a far-cry difference from stripping and prostitution and your negative feelings towards it may be more sociologically based than anything.
That said what did he want the money ... for? Was it for basic living? If general expenses no matter your profession I can see him wishing for the help, but if he was attempting to acquire it for his own fun then that aspects ( not that of his approval of your job ) is what troubles me most.
He sounds disgusting. Find someone who respects you a bit more.
