Open condom still effective 30 minutes later?

If you open a condom and start putting it on but then take it off, put it back in its case and put it in your wallet and use the same condemn for sex half an hour later (it wasn't broken or have nay come on it) would still be effective in preventing pregnancy?

  • Not to be "that person" but you should be spelling that "condom". "Condemn" means that you seriously disapprove of something. Hopefully you're not using a "condemn" during sex. Then it's probably rape.

But as long as the condom hasn't touched anything and hasn't left the wrapper, it's technically still safe. It is likely, however, that it's dried up a little (all condoms come with some lube on them) and can be a little uncomfortable to put on. Additionally, the dryness can cause the condom to tear, which obviously ruins the effectiveness.

Better safe than sorry? The condom should be used within a few minutes of opening. After 30 minutes, you should get a new one. They're not terribly expensive, and certainly cheaper than a baby or some herpes medication.

    • agree.

  • Yes, it will be fine. Days later might be a problem, but not minutes. Latex is pretty tough stuff.

BUT... carrying a condom in a wallet is not a good idea. Being compressed and probably sat on can damage the condom and make it much more prone to breaking, especially if carried that way for a long time. It's also not a good idea to keep them in a car or anywhere else where they will be exposed to high heat over a long period of time.

But really, is it that hard to figure out a safe way to transport them? And to have some spares?

  • As long as it doesn't break, it is effective in preventing pregnancy.

Does waiting for half an hour reduce its durability to the point that it might break more easily? I don't know.

I think you're fine though, because if the condom had broken, you would have mentioned it. Right?

  • No, I don't think it would be effective.. you can read what is written on the boxn it's for 1 only use. and if you take it off and put again.. I dnt think it's good idea

  • i think it should be fine

  • i don't believe so but I'm not 100%. I would treat it as a sterile object: once touched, its no longer sterile

    • Which means the first time you take it out is is no longer sterile. But so what. If they wanted it to be sterile they would have put in the directions, "wear latex gloves when opening." It doesn't need to be sterile. It should be clean and it sounds like it was in this case.

    • i was reffering to touching it with your wang buddy
