Should I go on birth control in a long distance relationship?

I met this guy and we hit it off right away. When we have sex we always use a condom, except once when I was on my period. I have gotten my period since then, so every thing's okay, but I was thinking that maybe it's time for me to go on birth control. There is one catch, though, we will have to go into a long distance relationship in about a month. The distance will be far too great to see each other often, maybe once or twice a year, and he will be back in the summer. I'm not sure if it's even worth it to go on birth control since we won't be having sex for a long time after he leaves, but I really feel this relationship could go somewhere. We have both expressed interest and talked about trying to make it work. I'm not sure what to do and I really just want to be safe, for both of us.

  • Well other than for the not having to deal with cramps I took it the entire time I was in my 20's just so I was protected should sex occur. I don't want a baby yet and knowing that if the condom broke I was good made me be able to enjoy so much more. Plus those instructions that say if you miss a pill you are good. That's only IF you've been on it for at least six months. I was on it ten years forgot three and no baby.

  • To be honest I wouldn't go on birth control if I was in a ldr.

  • Maybe some of your sisters will be of more help..I get your point...bc has side effects plus has to be taken regularly vs how many (or few times) you will be able to get together and have sexual relations...so it is all the stuff in your off time put against the lack of concern during the few times that you are together?

    • I only have a younger sister in my family and I don't think she'd know much about this stuff... I know I should have been more careful in the beginning, but I guess I got a little carried away. Since then, we have had sex with a condom every time.

    • I meant "sisters" as in your fellow females...whom no doubt know more than I do about bc...(:(:(:

  • lol crazy. you do know every pill has adverse effects right? He cannot impregnate you over the phone or internet you realise.
