Should You Use the Diva Cup? What in the World is a Diva Cup Anyway?

The diva cup is a reusable bell-shaped cup that is worn internally and sits low in the vaginal canal, collecting period waste rather than absorbing it unlike other options like tampons or pads. Menstrual cups like the Diva cup have been around for a very long time but has only gotten recently popular thanks to media attention. The Diva cup is said to have several advantages like the fact it is reusable and eco-friendly, cheaper in the long run, can be worn for a long time, and many more.

This is my experience with the cup...

Should You Use the Diva Cup? What in the World is a Diva Cup Anyway?

I first heard of the menstrual cup through Buzzfeed and I was fascinated and just had to try it. So I did research to make sure it was FDA approved and safe. IT WAS! So then I watched YouTube videos and read how to use it, then went straight to Walmart and bought the diva cup. When I first got it I boiled it for 5 mins. (the recommended time) to kill the germs/clean it. To get used to It before my period came I wore it for about 3 days and pretend to take it out and clean it and reinsert it. The only two thing was it made me sore the first day because I am a virgin and was a pad girl before the cup. Also I had to cut the stem because it was to long. When my period came I was prepared with my cup. On the first day it leaked because I didn't have access to a bathroom(BTW it leaked before 12 hours was over). So I would recommend wearing a pad or panty liner your heaviest days if you know you won't have access to a bathroom or at night. But for me this was normal to leak on my heaviest days so it did not change my view on the cup. After my heaviest days were over I had no problems with leaking even if I could not get to the bathroom.

Overall I absolutely LOVE the Diva cup and I wished I knew about it sooner. Plus ever since I wore a small pad or panty liner with the cup (on the heavy days) I have not stained any of my underwear which is a huge plus, and I don't have to buy pads nearly as often, I did the math and one box of pads will last me for about 9 months when they were only lasting 3 before. Remember if the Diva cup dosn't work for you there are other menstrual cups out there too.

  • I say no. I’m scared it would fall out

    • i have not had that problem

    • There's no way it will fall out. But the Diva Cup is not necessarily the best starter cup because it's on the larger side.

  • I've never used a Diva Cup, but I've tried a few other brands of menstrual cup. I absolutely love menstrual cups and they have totally changed my life. Diva Cups are one of the larger and longer menstrual cups on the market, though. There are a lot of smaller and shorter options out there. I personally use a smaller brand of cup and I turn it inside out so that I don't have to deal with the stem.

  • God my last period was so heavy it would've looked like a murder scene if I used the cup. Not even the largest pad would've protected my pants or my poor couch.
I have read that they can help to reduce period cramps.

  • I actually like it

  • Oh hell no, I would never use one of those things. Period.

  • A friend of mine told me her horror story of how her diva cup got REALLY stuck up in there and her poor boyfriend had to help for like two hours to get it out because she was too afraid to go to the hospital.

    • It can get a little stuck but once you know how to get it out, it’s really not a problem. It can’t get permanently stuck or anything.
