Recently across social media in particular, I have been noticing a trend of mocking the idea of larger labia on a woman. Call me ignorant, but I never knew this was a big deal.
Perhaps, it is not so much that large labia are frowned upon, but there is certainly an element of ignorance about how diverse genital appearance is. There is a small minority of ignorant idiots who mock and belittle a concept they don't understand

There are tons of myths surrounding labia size.
You might have heard about some of the following myths:
- the one that says large labia are caused by masturbation
- the one that says if you have large labia it means you must be a slut because they are caused by having lots of sex
- the one that says by implication that having large labia means you’re loose (slut)
None of this ever made sense to me, so I decided to read up about it a little. It turns out that these myths go back to the 1800s when Europeans colonised African nations. The women in some African tribes were known to have distinguishing body features, especially large buttocks and long protruding labia minora (the then called “veil of shame”). These women came to represent something that was primitive, animal, and sexual - the opposite of how “civilized” Europe wanted to see itself. Previously French naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc, compared black female sexuality with that of the ape thus convincing many Europeans of the 'abnormality' of large labia and that they were characteristic evidence of bestial sexuality and promiscuity. Black women were ignorantly regarded as being lascivious and over-sexed, as opposed to sensible and demure European sexuality.
The truth is 154 million women around the world have 'large' labia. 68% of females have labia minora that are between 0.4cm and 6.0cm wide. It has nothing to do with the amount of sexual activity they have undertaken. It is genetic. There is a huge amount of diversity in the appearance of a men and women's genitalia. Some labia will be uneven; one will be larger than the other. It's normal. The left labium is 3% more likely to be larger than the right. Don't assume that just because many pornstars have 'perfect' tucked in labia that yours are not normal/attractive.
When I see people, mainly guys (but not necessarily) circulating these images implying that 'loose' girls are sluts and calling large labia offensive and deregotary names such as "beef curtains" or "meat curtains", it never fails to sadden me. Not only are these people helping to spread these myths, but they are simultaneusly making an insecure woman or girl somewhere feel ashamed and self-conscious about a perfectly normal part of their body. This can dent their long-term confidence. There is also a predatory cosmetic surgery and beauty industry ready to create and exploit insecurities in people with vaginas and take us for add much money as they can.
So girls, if you do have large labia, embrace them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. In fact, some studies show that they may even help you enjoy sex more. Girls, if hyou have average or small labia, you are also normal. Don't belittle girls with larger ones either.
Guys, by all means have preferences but please do not belittle or mock larger labia. Realise that the myths you have been fed are untrue (and more importantly stem from a racist and awful place) and go out there and make a girl feel good about herself.
