I think that "virginity" is truly a sexist and outdated concept, meaning that I believe it's wrong for cultures to put so much emphasis on it that some poor girl gets rejected on her wedding night. Since it is only possible to tell (and people only care) that a woman is a virgin and not the man, it is a complete double standard.
The hymen is a piece of skin. It can be broken in a variety of ways, only one of which being sex, so it is unfair to place so high a value on it.
That said, I don't think it's right to jump into bed with the first piece of meat you see, but I do believe that as long as you love the person you should go for it. Take your time to get to know eachother, but when it feels right then you shouldnt worry about what everyone else thinks. It's about you and your feelings.
I respect people's views who want to wait until marriage but I just find it kind of silly myself. Just be safe and be with the one you love. I find it hilarious when I hear about people having anal or oral sex in order to stay virgins. Hahah. Just do it already. :P2 0 0 0I thought virginity was somewhat important in high school which is good, that sediment kept me out of other people's pants all four years! I wanted my first time to be with someone I would think back on and smile about, not someone I'd be ashamed to lose it to. I was happy to get rid of it myself, with my boyfriend of four years and I have no regrets. It's not a big deal (aside from religious communities) where I come from but it's a huge deal in many cultures.
1 0 0 0Virginity, in my culture it' s truly important, to me not that much, why maybe because I'm not either way, there is always those that freak to much to that word, I wouldn't mind being one all over again, but it really doesn't matter, why? Because right after the sex your once again not a virgin again, get what I mean.

For anyone to say sex isn't a big deal is reverting back in evolution. Hundreds to thousands of years ago we ran around like crazy lusted animals and had dozens of men attempting to impregnant a single woman one day, and another the next. Biologically we have to reproduce to survive, so naturally, back in the day when infant mortality rates were greater than 50% (I think) and old age was mid-thirties, we didn't have time to build relationships or be civil. Now that we do, virginity has importance, sex has importance, but not in the same ways anymore. We don't need to be sex fiends any longer, in fact, by evolution we're growing away from it. Those that have sex with only people he or she truly loves are examples of higher evolution. He or she recognizes that sex doesn't have to be for babies or pleasure, but it can be for love.
What's special is whether or not the person has held onto virginity and sex for someone they love, as opposed to a person he or she met at a party and thought was hot.1 0 1 0In the very old days, virgins were sacrificed to the gods of any given culture to give a pure and untainted body to those they worship. Now that such barbaric rituals are no more, I can't figure out why virginity is any damned important. In all actuality, your first sex is not the best. It gets better with experience which is something that should not be saved until marriage. Sex is too good for just one and only one person in your life. Sex is supposed to be a good thing and always was, similar to chocolate.heheh.
When my first happened, I was mad as all hell that grownups forced virginity upon me because I felt this was way too good to wait for. I was a changed man after that night. So from my perspective: virginity is a sickness. There is a cure.1 0 1 1

1 1I think for most on this side it would be hypocritical to say no based on average age. I think it is slightly overrated when it comes to people obsessing over complete purity while being well into their twenties
