Webcam girl... can it kill my future?

I want to be a webcam girl to make extra money on the side. I know that its slutty etc etc etc but I'm working 2 jobs right now and barely making enough to buy groceries. Is there anyway that it could come back and haunt me?

  • Depends on where you go. Yes it can as they can easily google you (as employers do) and might not hire you based off that (good luck fighting that as discrimination or anything) and potential mates could google your name too and find stuff and decide to not bother or might attract guys who think you're easy.

While there are methods (like disguising, not showing your face, not giving your name and address) there's no way to not be anonymous online. Hell, 4chan found the girl throwing puppies into the water without seeing her face directly or knowing anything about her. They find girl's Facebook pages who post on their site and put nudes up without showing their faces or give information or whatnot. There's always ways to track down who someone is online. So take that into consideration.

If you want to do it, oh well, do it. No big deal as long as you're comfortable with it. You can possibly hide yourself enough where it won't effect you. But if you get popular enough in general, well... by then it's too late. You'll make good money (maybe) by then at least.

  • Imagine this: you're sitting in a job interview, and the interviewers shows you some still photos from your cam work and says, "Is there anything you would like to tell me about these?" Could you handle this? Some girls can, some can't.

And consider this: if that were to happen, it would mean that they saw your cam work and decided to interview you *anyway*, so it's not a deal breaker. The point of the question would be to see, if they hired you and had to back you publicly, whether you could tough it out or whether you'd fold under the pressure. That's what they'll ask of you, so you need to figure out--IN ADVANCE--whether you can ask that of yourself.

  • Hmm. There are several things you can do.

    - do you have at least 2 computers/laptops? If you do, use 1 device for the webcaming, so that the IP address can only be linked to your work, but nothing else. Only do the work on that device, don't browse or do anything else on it.

    - while you're doing this kind of work, change your appearance. Wear a wig, wear colour contacts, put on fake tattoos, piercings, wear heavy make up, if you're white, put on fake tan, if you're tan, lighten your skin with specially formulated creams.

    - don't give out any real info about yourself, use a fake name, address, open a separate bank account for your payments you recieve from webcaming. Though this might get you arrested, but as long as you aren't trnasferring huge amounts of money or anything, you should be okay.

  • Well, of course that's something that you risk. Take the time to think it through before deciding. What would you do if a family member found out? What would you do if a future boyfriend found out? Could it negatively affect the type of job you want to do in the future (i.e. if you want to be a politician, it's definitely not a good idea :P)?

I worked as a camgirl for awhile, but so far I've had nothing "haunt" me.

  • i know this girl at my university who graduated 3-4 years ago and did webcam. her shots are still all over the internet and got posted on collegeacb(college gossip website) so even though she did this years back its still coming back up. you are an adult and it only YOUR decision. just think of the pros and cons before you do it

    • perhaps you should link said girl as umm... evidence. ya... evidence. That's it :D :P

  • Know that anything that is ever released on the Internet will be available forever. So, only allow what you are willing to have out there.

If you never show your face or give you real name, no one will know it's you, BUT you generally can't be a webcam girl without showing your face. And if you show your face, sooner or later, someone who knows who you are will tell people who you really are, and that will become public information.

Already, companies who are hiring people do Internet and Facebook/Twitter searches to see what they can find about that person. Druken party pictures and the like routinely keep people from getting jobs. Now, obviously, not all jobs are going to care or bother doing these searches, but if you're looking to work at a big corporation, its likely they will.

    • even if they don't show their face, or don't show it directly, that hasn't stopped places *cough4chancough* from hunting down girls and their true identity.

    • Sure, but in most cases, the chances of that happening are really minute, compared to those who show their face. You never know who is watching: your ex-BF, that guy from 6th grade who was in love with you, that nerd from the library, your girl1 friend's dad, etc. But chances are that someone that knows you will find your pics/videos sooner or later.

  • i think it'd be hot. lol!

  • yea ..i think it will haunt you later in life. Don't do it.

  • As already stated, never show your face and always use a proxy.

If you want a case study in what NOT to do, Google "Vanessa Rand."

  • dont do that ..i think it will haunt you later in life. Don't do it.

  • absolutely it can. once it's out on the interest, it's going to be there forever

  • It could definitely come back to haunt you. It often does.

  • I would be careful of doing anything on video or photos that could come back to haunt you. Websites can be hacked and traced. If you are going to do it PLEASE leave your face out of it or wear a mask. I'm not going to judge you for doing what you need to do to survive.

  • You will regret doing it. Don't.

  • Wear elaborate makeup, wigs or costumes so you aren't easily recognizable. Obviously don't give out your real name, address, age, university, etc. Problem solved.

    • Oh Tia, you so silly. Underestimating the free time of some people on the internet as well as their ability to find others :P hah. But you are right, that stuff will help conceal you are from a great majority of the people you ever will come across.

    • It's not silly. I'm getting really annoyed at you always patronizing me. -_- I know more about this than the average person.

    • But it doesn't 100% solve the problem. And I'm serious. Just google 4chan and puppy girl or any girl basically that ever posted there that they had an interest. Like Jesse Slaughter or whatever. They generally find you. Even when they were put under protection and moved from their house. Some people are really smart, really immature, and really bored.
