What's the need/purpose of pubic hair on men?

In case of women it seems to serve some purpose for sure since it covers and blankets the genital opening and acts as a protective cover and filter. Also it does have a purpose for sure since women otherwise don't have that thick dense long hair anywhere else in the body but still get thick bushy pubes. Also it looks good on women because of the difference between smooth skin everywhere else and thick patch between legs!! Why do men have it? Seems useless!! Just have it because they are hairy in general and as every other body hair in men it's useless and messy?

  • One purpose for pubic hair is to prevent chafing during sex. 2 hairy mounds allow sliding despite not being wet with lubrication. Place 2 fingers firmly on the tip if your head. Now rub. Goes relatively smoothly. Then place those fingers on your forehead and rub. It would chafe over time.

    • Okay, but women keep it shaved anyway so even if men kept it hairy bush would it help prevent chafing especially chafing the female skin

    • Likely so.

  • It provides protection against skin abrasion, especially when having sex, and also some protection from bacteria in that area (men can get infections in their urethra too).

    • A mans uretha hangs out in the air away from the pubes anyway , so I do not get how hair would help against bacteria in the urethra

    • It's like a filter, filters out some of the bacteria in that area to reduce the chance of infections. Does the same thing for women.

    • Same way hair in the nose filters out bacteria and toxins

  • There's a theory floating around out there that it halps to trap pheromones, and therefore assists in the attraction of mates, just as it supposedly does for women.

That theory has never been conclusively proven, to the best of my knowledge, so it may or may not be true. The same is theorized apart armpit hair, which is, again, why both sexes still have it, supposedly.

Aside from that, and providing minor protection to the genitals, prior to the advent of clothing, I can't think of any other feasible reason why it exists. I've been shaving it off for years, myself.

  • I believe both are rich in aroma, phermone for female for sure, possibly male. Also, hairs are sensivity things which create more sensation. just touch one and wiggle it and see.

Nature set us up to be very happy around this whole idea of mating..."populate the planet". For some reason, reproducing is very important in nature!

So when women trim theirs all off, I hear it may cause issues in aroma and such. read that somewhere. When you walk through the mall, you want to leave a nice phermone trail to attract the guys!:)

    • Women AND men shave everywhere and don't have pheromones anyway and still smell much nicer clean hygienic and attract mates

    • you sure about that? I've read about it in past. No we don't shave everywhere, some do. Clean does smell better, but women like musk odors (men), men like womens aromas. I'm not sure we are so "smell" sense like other animals, but I'd say they are there. It's not like we go around smelling each others privates like dogs, but I've heard from more than one woman, I like him to smell good! There are natural scents. Actually I recall a study that showed women may have better success finding a mate by smelling guys sweaty t-shirts... whichever scent smelled good, was a good match. lol! there ya go, a new dating scheme!:) The activity change during puberty suggest that humans communicate through odors. Several axillary steroids have been described as possible human pheromones: androstadienol, androstadienone, androstenone, androstenol, and androsterone. Androstenol is the putative female pheromone.

  • I'm sure there's some natural reason for it being there, but I don't see the point. It's not like that area has a hard time staying warm.

    • Yeah. People have clothes to stay warm. It's pretty usless in men. For women it seems to serve a purpose

  • Pubic hair signifies that the person has gone through puberty, both for males and females. So women shaving themselves bald down there is stupid.

    • Men have facial hair to signify that they have undergone puberty!! No need to have pubes

    • You're probably right, but what I said about women stands.

    • You keep yours shaved and like women natural bushy?

  • To protect against insects from crawling up your vagina and dick
The hair protects it... a bit... maybe
Also from the cold... no hair makes for a cold breeze hitting the gentiles

    • But people are clothed now a days. Some bush around it doesn't make any difference...

    • That takes thousands of years to change... People still live in the bushes... it’s not completely gone yet

  • It does not look good...

  • We have it because it's just great.

    • Great? In what way is it so great?

    • You keep yourself buhsy?

    • I do, because I personally enjoy pubic hair, and I've never had any complaints about it. In the past a partner and I both shaved, just to see what the hype was about. We both hated it, and it itches so much growing in.

  • I have heard that it is supposed to provide cushioning/mitigate chafing during sex.

  • Absolutely none whatsoever. I keep my shit trimmed and to a bare minimum

    • Vote for option 1 then

    • You got it

  • Because for proper sperm counts your balls must maintain a proper temperature and that's the purpose of hair

    • Yeah? You keep it bushy?

    • Yep I do

    • Not even trimming it up and shaving balls?

  • No purpose. I remove mine.

  • Damn whats with the half hearted shots, this post made me very confused..

    • What do you mean dude

    • Something against mens hair you’re roasting the shit out of it nonchalantly lol.

    • Also to add a decent reply yeah no pretty much all hair is useless in the human population, except that used for expression.

  • I keep mine at least trimmed, as that's what I require on a girl. To not be hypocritical

    • Trimmed as in close trim or light trim only?

    • Close
