Who first taught you about sex and how old were you?

Seems the parents are leaving it up to the schools now a days and I don't agree with it. I'm amazed that most kids now about sex at very young ages now. They may not completely get it, but I think girls should understand how there bodies work since they could get pregnant at a young age. We had a "sex ed" class in like 9th or 10th grade and it was a joke really.

  • I think my dad took me aside and told me all about it with all the details you'd get in medical school when I was like 11. He knew I was starting to go through puberty so he wanted me to know what was up. Then like a year later they started teaching it very, very vaguely and in broad strokes in school (I went to Catholic school). I think it is important to explain to younger kids about sex now because they've got access to the internet everywhere, some of them have it on their phones. They can see and hear things that I never could've seen or known about at that age. I just think it's important to let them know what's real and isn't and what things mean BEFORE they see that kind of thing.

    • Now that I think back, I saw my first p*rn at around 10 or 11 and it freaked me out. I was thinking that sex was this horrible thing for women since they were screaming bloody murder lol. But yeah that's all fake and it makes women look like a piece of meat. It's scary having the internet and kids having access to these things, but I belive knowledge of what's real and what's just fake is important.

  • Back in 7th grade there was a sex-ed class. Wasn't all that interesting, somewhat informative but left a lot of questions unanswered. Parents never gave me the "talk" so that wasn't any help.

The internet is where I learned. Never thought I'd learn anything by looking at p*rn.

  • I had my first sex ed class in grade 4. It was pretty basic stuff, more about how our bodies work, periods ect. Had it again in grade 5, 7,8 and 10. Just because I knew about sex did mean I was going to do anything about it. My Dad was perfectly fine about talking about sex. Since I was 12 or 13 I was always told that if I was to have sex to make sure I used a condom. I think it is fine to learn at a young age. Sweden is a good example of this: link

If sex ed starts that late, I wouldn't think that it is very effective at all. It's a natural part of life and shouldn't be a forbiden subject.

  • I was molested when I was 6, but it was really weird. So I guess my first knowledge about sexual stuff came then. Later, it felt awkward learning about sex, but at the same time wanted to know a lot. So, I would say about 4th-5th grade. I saw a p*rno for the first time about 5th grade. Anyway, I'm rambling ... the point is that I didn't have sex until I was 18. Knowing about sex and doing it are two different things.

    • Im sorry to hear that, but yes your right knowledge of sex and having sex are different. I new everything about sex from an early age, I was introduced to p*rn at a early age and picked up on some things of what I "thought" women liked lol. But I'm pleased to say I didn't have sex until I had sex with the woman I later married. She was my first and hopefully my only.

    • It's possible that kids who know more about the realities of sex are more careful than the ones with a romanticized idea of it? What do you think?

    • Yeah I agree, I mean it shouldn't be a "bad" thing like it's made to be. Kids are naturally curious of there bodies and should no what's best to do and not best to do. Then they can make a decision on how to respond when a situation is presented to them

  • I was flicking through the channels late at night when I was seven and I saw people having sex. I was fascinated with it and started watching it a lot.
