Why is being prude a bad thing?

so apparently I am prude, and I know it is supposed to be an insult, but I take it as almost a compliment because I don't want anything to do with sex, like I would still make out with someone, but to me prude means you won't have sex and you are really modest and a little perfect child. how is that bad? I am never going to get a boyfriend because I am "prude" apparently :(

being prude isn't a bad thing. you are actually right the word prudent is meant to be a compliment. also your under 18 so being prude isn't bad at all under 28 all guys do is pressure you into doing what they want to do. now don't misunderstand me there are plenty of great guys over and unde the age of 18 but it does not sound as if you hav encountered them. don't ever let anybody pressure you into anything by telling you that you are a prude, each person has a different comfort level just because you don't think about sex all day or want to have sex just yet does not make you some "prude". the fact of the matter is the colloquial definition of prudence has gotten so far away from the words real denotation. being prude is fine, its all about you being comfortable not others. and as for the last part well I have some advice that I'm sure many others have shared with you. you say you won't get a boyfriend because your "prude" but do you really want a boyfriend who will exploit you and only be with you for sex? sex or whatever will come later with somepne who your comfortable with, someone who won't call you a prude, it will happen when you are ready not the people around you. I know it sux when someone gives you that "do you really wanna be with xyz kinda guy..." because there comes a time when you want to say um actually I do cus if that's what it takes to get a boyfriend then yea o do, trust me I know but in the end, you know its not what you want. you want someone special, for you. hope that helped. and be proud to be prude! see how catchy that sounds ;)

you are very very correct in saying that. however it isn't so much that it has lost its meaning as it is that the original meaning has become something other than what it was originally. I still think it conotates the same things it denotes however people hav this weird idea that being modest and judicious is to be as a quiet mousy little librarian, ya know? but its whatever. all you hav to do is worry about you like I said be proud to be prude, they shud put that sh*t on a button

Being a prude doesn't mean you're a modest,perfect little child.

I know some virgins who are some of the worst individuals in character that I have ever met,so that means they aren't perfect & holding it above your head doesn't make you perfect either.

I'm a virgin,but I don't walk around thinking that defines who I am.

Generally when people are labeled,whether it's prude or slut,they are extreme.They are boring individuals who won't do anything and have this fear of exploring or f*** anything that breaths.

haha I think it's so funny when guys say that to me or my friends because we know that really, they're just bitter that we won't get with them. So, don't take it personally. A lot of the time it seems like guys call girls prude because they think it will put pressure on them to do more than just make out.

It depends.

If being a prude means that you want nothing to do with sex, then that's fine, but all the guys who DO want sex are going to pass you by because of it. That's all well and good, since you and a sexual guy wouldn't make a good match in the first place.

If being a prude means you have a "holier than thou" mentality because of your virginity, then you're suffering from a case of unwarranted self-importance, which "little perfect child" seems to suggest. Just because you want nothing to do with sex doesn't make you any better or worse than anyone else.

Its an insult because it means your a stiffass. Its not just related to sex, although can be. But if you won't have sex etc/, your not necessarily a prude, but being a real downer about it makes you a prude.

It doesn't mean you are a perfect child, it just means you're no fun, won't take risks, too up tight, boring, etc. I don't see how that's a compliment.

Being a prude is a bad thing because you never experience great things in life and you miss out on so much when most people enjoy doing things with people and having fun. There's no harm in doing it, so you're the only one who's at a loss here.

but why does in the end everyone think, oh ewww she is prude, even if a lot of people say you are funny and nice and amusing they still call you prude, they just said you weren't boring and were funny, so being prude is bad because you don't want to have sex? to some people I don't think that is bad

Prudent:one who is wise and modest; proper careful in providing for the futuer, wise and judicious, intelligent in matters of practical affairs. yeah that is a really bad way to be, maybe your talkig about all the societal stigma affiliated with being "prude" but it is entirely meant as a compliment at least to anybody wo owns a dictionary

It's not slut or prude.. I'm not a prude, and I wouldn't classify myself as a slut. You don't have to be easy or frigid, it's not all extreme. You can have fun with people (Boyfriends/Girlfriends) and not be a slut nor prude.

I respect that, but I'd prefer a girl with a more realistic view on sex. As in, sex is just sex. It is better with love and trust thrown in the mix, though.
