Why do I feel embarrassed to get a sex toys?

I walk in a sex shop and the people inside made me feel like I was doing something wrong. So I left. It took a lot just to go. I wanted to buy online but I'm always afraid my father and mother will open it up and I can't tell them y I got it!

  • No idea... presumably you suffer from guilt with all things associated with sex and masturbation for some reason. Puritan upbringing? Overly religious dogma instilled when you were young?

Look, when you to a sex store, everyone in there has only one thing on their minds... what can I buy that's going to be fun and help me cum?

Buying any sort of sex toy should be trivial for you. Take a look at the dildo's, the vibrators, the eggs, the pocket rocket, whatever. Comparison shop. Feel the texture. Guage the size. Ask questions about battery life and if its water proof. What lubes might you need? Oil based? Gel based? Silicone based?

Believe me, the staff have heard it all, will know most of the details, and won't give a sh*t.

The end result, is that you'll come out with the right item for your needs, and you'll know all about how to use it properly. No other customer will have spent more than 10 seconds even looking at other customers. They all have their own shopping lists to go through.

In a sex store, you will find customers like ... the "straight" kid, who's going to buy some gay p*rn in amongst some straight p*rn, and hope the guy at the cash register won't notice. The loud guys who would all love to buy a Katie Morgan cyberskin fleshlight, but instead are convincing themselves that they're only going to buy an inflatable sheep for a friends stag party. The lonely old guy in the dirty mack, who never gets more than 3 feet away from the Japanese import section, and carries a bunch of "barely legal" mags under his arm. The "woman" in the badly fitting dress and wig, who is fingering the "transformation" mags. The young guy who's glued to the shemale section looking at all the covers, but afraid to actually pick one up.

And in addition to those characters, you'll find the men and women who come in, browse a DVD, pick up a new gimp mask, ask about some German imported product only to be told it'll be in next week, and a woman like you who's just trying to make her first purchase.

No one cares, honestly. Everyone in there will have their own kinks, their own stories, and a woman buying any sort of sex toy isn't enough to raise an eyebrow. You have no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed. Those feelings are all in your mind.

If you really can't deal with it though, go in, and simply ask the staff what time are they least busy. And go back at that time.

    • Thank u! For that! :) Next time I will go I will think of that then what I usually think!

  • just go to a sex shop and buy one...honestly, the person checking you out at the register won't care...and if they do look at you weird, you'll never see them again...you ahve to imagine that buying a dildo is the LEAST weirdest thing they've seen at the store...trust me there are much more weird things you could do...

just buy it, you won't see them again so it won't matter!

    • you make a good point! : )

  • Lol. I don't know where you live, but the places where they sell those here where I live are in the "shady" parts of town; the isles are riddled with sex toys so that first-time buyers are a little overwhelmed; the sales clerk always looks like he/she has tried them all and is using their "professional eye" to help you pick out the things they think will work best for you. Oh, and if you don't know what you're looking for, they have a field day with you.)

I was lucky enough to go with a friend who knew a good place. The clerk recommended I stay on the conservative side till I knew what I liked. Her approach made the purchasing process a little less awkward, but I still would never waltz into the store on my own.

    • ur lucky to have a good friend! :)

    • Funny part's we were BOTH beet red by the time we left the store. Sigh.

  • The first time is awkward, the second time is fine, then the people start knowing you by your first name. lol

    • haha oh boy ! I don't know if I want to go that far! lol

    • LOL, I know. But honestly, it's not that bad. The first time I was so embarrassed and I went with my friend. But there was youngish girls that worked there, and they were so friendly and helpful that they just made us feel insanely comfortable. Research a bit to decide what you want, and go get it! Everybody is in there doing something seedy, so don't be embarrassed lol

    • Thanks! : )

  • lol the more you do it, and the more you buy, the less awkward you'll feel

  • Buy online have it sent FED-EX and have it shipped to a fed-ex location and held there and you can pick it up from there or make it to were your the only person that can sign for it then you have to be home. Could always have it shipped to a friends house that you know or ship to your work

  • You are simply afraid because it is one of those cliche items. You have the right to pleasure and there is nothing wrong with that, that you should feel embarrassed about.

  • Hi I don't think you should be embarrassed at all. Its a natural thing to have and its so much more acceptable and common more now than ever before.

  • Not really. It just feels like that. They wouldn't even be thinking anything. You won't regret it later when your in bliss. Or remember there's the toothbrush to get ;)

    • doesn't cost much either

    • HAHA! thank u! ;) your so sweet!

    • thank u! i'd so give you an O myself if I could ;)

  • I don't think it was you. I'm a guy & I've been in one & the people that work there (or at least the one I've been in) seem a little different.

I tell myself as I've told others, those people work there & they have seen it all. It's no different to them checking your purchase out as someone at a drug store or general store. They just scan the item(s) & don't even look to see what it is, just that the price came up.

Wear a hat or sunglasses if that makes you feel better

    • Ok I will! That I can do! Thank u! : ) I didn't even think about that!
