Why do guys want their girlfriend to be on birth control?

Hormonal birth control can cause so many different side effects. Why do you want your girlfriend to experience that? When it's not needed? You could use condoms, at least they don't harm anyone!

Guys did you know the pill can cause loss of libido and weight gain and mood swings. Why would you want a fat moody girlfriend, who doesn't even want sex? Sound like a stupid idea to me.

  • This is proof sex-ed is NOT being taught well in schools.

It takes 2 to get pregnant and 2 to prevent pregnancy.

-Condoms are not 100% full-proof. They can break, tear, come off. It happens everyday, especially to those who do not know how to use condoms. They are great for pregnancy prevention as well as STD prevention(when coupled with regular testing and monogamy)

Speak for yourself. I loved when I was on birth control. I went from horrific periods that I feared on a monthly basis to an easy period where I had to pop an Advil. My skin got clearer(although Accutane can also be thanked) and my weight became more stable. People exaggerate on the side effects and even then, like anything else, it can take time to figure out what works best for you.

That being said, there are other options such as the shot, spermicide and female condoms. It takes 2 to tango. It is NOT only his responsibility. Your healthy, your body, you need to take responsibility and women need to quit leaving the burden all on the guy

    • I would rather stay absident then go on birth control!

    • Then you clearly aren't ready for sex. If you can't accept the responsibility that comes with sex then don't have it. It takes 2 to have sex, 2 to prevent pregnancy and STDs, and 2 to get pregnant.

    • @UPDATE: You're making generalizations and stereotyping. It doesn't happen to ALL women. You're simply making excuses.

  • Birth control pill - 99.7% effective with perfect use; 92% with typical use

Condoms - 98% effective with perfect use; 85% with typical use

While the effectiveness of the pill and the condom aren't that much different if used perfectly, most people don't use these methods perfectly all the time and condoms allow for more risk of unplanned pregnancy than the pill.

You don't have to use the pill. If you don't want to, don't. But a lot of people prefer to use the pill, either alone or in conjunction with condoms, since it's better at preventing pregnancy.

Also, studies suggest that the pill actually doesn't cause weight gain.. link

  • they are selfish and just want their pleasure and nothing else

  • My girlfriend actually likes the birth control. When we first started having sex, condoms were the way to go. it was my job to make sure we used them. But her periods were always met with severe cramps all throughout her life, so much so she called off from work. She went to the doctor and SHE put my girl on the pill. My girls hormones were out of whack. After that, her periods, and cramps, were a lot milder. Not using condoms now is something that we both agreed to. It feels better during sex. Don't just think of the negative side effects, there are some good ones.

  • If you don't want to use hormonal birth control, then don't. You'll be more likely to get preggers than if you do, but if you and your guy are comfortable with the risk, then good for you.

For MOST women, they can take hormonal birth control and have no serious side effects. So for THEM it's worth it. Don't like it? Don't use it. Simple.

    • Well said.

    • Thanks! So sick of people trying to tell everyone ELSE what they should do.

  • "Why would you want a fat moody girlfriend, who doesn't even want sex? Sound like a stupid idea to me." lmao I'm on the pill and I'm neither fat nor moody. And I also happen to enjoy sex with my boyfriend. Yes birth control pills CAN cause side effects. "Can" being the operative word there. Most people don't experience any side effects, I know I don't. Pain relief medicine like Advil CAN cause a whole bunch of negative side affects too, but I bet you still take those don't you.

I prefer the pill to other forms of contraceptives. Condoms take away some of the feeling from sex. And there are some good benefits to being on the pill too. It makes your periods more regular and they also become lighter. I don't get cramps nearly as bad anymore either. Don't knock it til you've tried it.

  • I don't think most women go on birth control because their boyfriends are the ones pushing it - most chose it for themselves. That's because the positive effects outweigh the possible negative effects - regulating your menstrual cycle, good treatment for acne, and the major one - much lower chance of pregnancy. Condoms certainly don't compare, because even if they're consistently used correctly, if used alone they're only about 97% effective. Birth control isn't 100% effective either of course, abstinence is the only way you'll be sure not to get pregnant. It's smartest to use birth control as well as condoms.

I've been on a birth control pill for 5 years, and I've never had a negative side effect. Not all of them effect everyone negatively, although some higher dose ones are more likely to, and certain people can't tolerate them as well as others.

If you don't want to use birth control, you don't have to. Certainly if your guy is trying to pressure you.

  • So that their girlfriends don't get pregnant. Also it may avoid them using condoms but it's smarter to use both.

Don't birth control pills control women's menstrual cycle though? Not all of the hormonal effects are negative.

    • A condom will avoid pregnancy if used correctly. There are pleanty of bad side effects of any hormonal birth control. There's nothing wrong with having a period, we are suposed to have them.

  • Why would someone prefer to get a massage from someone who doesn't have raging, pus-spewing herpes sores on their hands? They could just wear a full body suit!

    • That has nothing to do with the pill you idiot

    • Then you're completely self-centered if you can't understand the comparison

    • No the guy is self centered if he wants her to go on drugs just so he can feel a bit nicer for sex.

  • Birth control these days don't really have too many side effects. I asked my doctor about gaining weight on the pill, and he said that it was a common side effect when the pill was first created, but is definitely not any more. Besides, the pill really helped my skin clear up and made my period a lot lighter.

  • well there are such things as latex allergies, the fact that they are uncomfortable and the fact that they have a much higher failure rate than birth control

    • So you can get latex free condoms. They can't be that uncomfortable! Not as bad as getting side effects from a drug. They will work if used correctly.

    • i know plenty of girls who take because to regulate their periods or whatever. And you're not getting my point, the FAILURE rate of condoms is much higher than bc. as in they actually break, and not everybody uses them correctly

    • Well they should LEARN how to use them it's not that hard!

  • Thank you! I think the same way really lol I won't take birth control because I don't want most of the side effects. I just won't do it.

I'm not willing to mess up my hormones and my body so my boyfriend doesn't have to wear a condom lol gtfo

You don't want kids? Cool wear a condom Get the big V something.

  • Well it's mainly because dudes hate condoms, and so our rational is that if you're on birth control then we don't need to use a condom.

    • You should still use a condom anyway that's being selfish

    • Haha I know, but you can take that issue up with the next dude you sleep with ;)

  • because they want to go in raw

    • I think that's selfish

    • its but then again what guy isn't

    • Why is that selfish? It feels better for the girl that way too.

    • Show All
  • well so they won't get pregos and to a guy havin sex without a condom feels better to them maybe that's why...

  • You already asked this before.

Did you know wearing condoms can cause guys to have loss of libido, loss of height, hair loss, loss of dominance in bed, loss of feeling in the penis, weight loss, loss of limbs, loss of life, loss of employment, anal prolapse, severe brain hemorrhaging, heart failure, obesity, depression, and AIDS?

    It could happen.

    • None of that is true. A condom will protect you not harm you ! Who cares if it doesn't feel as good! At least your being safe and you don't have to take drugs! Anyway even if the girl is on the pill he should still wear a condom! Birth control isn't an excuse to stop wearing them.

    • If you're that against birth control, then that's fine. Don't expect a guy to want sex when it doesn't feel like anything, though.

  • yes we know that but condom can brake then your girlfriend ends up prgo and that y guy what there girlfriends on the pill

  • a lot of guys hate condoms because they feel like it takes away from it

  • U kinda need to chill about this. You sound like the anti-pill spokes person. you obviously don't know much about the pill since you say how terrible it is for you when it isn't. Why are you asking this question anyways? Because every time people answer something you don't completely agree with you are bitching them out for being selfish...people have different opinions, that's how the world works. If you don't listen to what we have to say about it don't be preaching to us to listen to you.

  • I'm on birth control and it doesn't have side effects. When you first start it, you do, but that's only because it's new. You are supposed to try different kinds of birth control until you find the one that works best with your body (aka-one that doesn't give you side effects)!

  • Don't forget the bitchiness and moodiness. I bet some of the problems on here are caused by moodiness because of the because pill.

    • I forgot about the loss of sex drive and it makes it hard to orgasm.

    • Another cause for more moodiness.

  • My d*** feels so much better without the rubber on it and I don't want a baby..

    • Selfish. You only care about YOU. Don't care that the drugs could be harming the girls? But it doesn't matter as long as you d*** feels good?

    • Your question was asking why men want their girl on birth control... I gave you an answer. Birth control has many good side effects as well. Consider those rather than only the bad ones.

    • Do you eat fast food? Because the food from fast food joints such as McDonalds, Whataburger, Burger King, Sonic etc are harmful. Do you smoke? Killing brain cells. Do you drink? Harmful. Do you drink caffeine? Harmful. Take pain killers when hurt or having cramps? Harmful? Eating non organic fruits and veggies? Harmful, pesticides on them.
