Why do people get abortions?

why? there is contraception, so their shouldn't be abortion who do people do this?

I am a child of rape My father raped my mom and abondoned her for several months She didn't kill me because she valued life She already had 3 kids, and wasn't prepared to have me at all But she choose not to get an abortion and let me live and I am grateful for my life everyday

  • Why? Here's some possible reasons:

    - She was raped and got pregnant from it.

    - The pregnancy is threatening her health and termination is medically necessary if she wants to live.

    - There is something physically wrong with the fetus and it will negatively affect their quality of life once they are born if they make it that far.

    - Contraception DOES fail on occasion. That's why the effectiveness rate isn't 100%. Condoms have to be the right size and put on correctly (and there are guys who don't know how to use them). The pill needs to be taken every single day at around the same time, and if it's not or even if she's on antibiotics for a bit, the chances of pregnancy go up. Then there's the people who just rely on the pull out method - lol.

    - She isn't financially ready or even emotionally ready to raise a child. In this case I'd hope she would consider adoption, but the problem with that is the amount of kids who are already floating around the system because there's not enough permanent homes to place them in. I don't think being thrown around the foster system is very good for the kid.

    Those are just some of the main reasons.

    • I'm sorry that your mom was raped, but just because she didn't end the pregnancy doesn't mean you can force every other rape victim to do the same.

    • The simple solution is if you're not ready for the possibility of pregnancy, the don't have sex. Keep it all in your pants. If contraception was 100% then you probably wouldn't be asking this question.

  • because 99% is not 100%, and it can simply happen that borth control fails for some reason. Condoms can break... then there is rape for instance...

    But I think I understand what you are getting at. People who gamble with pregnancy out of pure lazyness or ignorance should not even be having sex in the first place. Unfortunately, there are many uneducated people out there and part of it is to be blamed on the parents, school and religion.

  • Contraception doesn't always work. Using a condom or taking birth control pills/using a birth control patch doesn't guarantee that you won't get pregnant.

    There are also other circumstances such as being raped or getting pregnant in their teens when they're not ready to have kids where they feel they have no other choice but to abort.

  • Because sometimes it fails or they forget to take it.

    Reguardless, I'm in favor of abortions simply because I think we have waay too many people and don't need to add to the problem by forcing women to give birth to children they either can't or don't want to take care of.

Some women have adverse reactions to hormonal forms of birth control, and there is no such thing as a 100% effective form of birth control, other than abstaining from sex.
