In America, prostitution is taboo for the fact that it goes against their religious beliefs. The Bible preaches that everyone should wait until marriage and that sex without a loved one is strictly forbidden, making it "dirty" and taints the soul which results in eternal damnation. A second reason is that men think we have the right to bang anyone else's daughter/sister/cousin/niece/auntie/great auntie and so on and women should give us all the sex we men can handle. But if anyone tries to jump our own women, there's the devil to pay. Third, the feminist movement has a major attitude about prostitution, claiming it as sexist, demeaning to women, leads to violence against women(WTF?!?) and so on. Finally, there are the forementioned problems of trafficking and the like. The reason why prostitution is rough is that few nations besides Canada and the state of Nevada actually enforces the "rules" associated with prostitution such as regulations, counteracting trafficking, eliminationg child sex rings and so on.
The truth is that here in the USA, the demand for prostitution is higher than ever. With the feminist movement, high divorce rates, sexual harassment and women who just don't want men, the demand will always be there. In addition, Ontario province in Canada just legalized brothels which sent a clear message to all men east of the Mississippi to come to Canada.
Many of you will vehemently disagree with this, but I support prostitution if done properly and strongly monitored. Why try to ask a woman out when all she's going to do is reject you and possibly cry wolf? Why risk picking up a stranger not knowing what's going to happen when you can go for the sure thing with legalized prostitution? Remember that women always say, "I don't date/screw just anyone" right? There are LOTS of Mr. Just Anyone out there, what are they supposed to do? Masturbate for the rest of their lives?
I say if women/men want to do and don't make it a career, go for it. Just do it right: safely, behind closed doors, securely and check yourself constantly. Do it in established bordellos and not on the streets, lay off the drugs and leave children alone. No human trafficking...none.
Unfortunately, America will never do it as an entire nation. It will remain strictly in Nevada and Rhode Island. Just how it is and how it will always be0 1 0 0I don't think its wrong.
A lot of people dislike it because they think:
- it allows casual sex which they are against
- it makes cheating easy, which they are against, even though if someone is going to cheat this is the path least likely to impact family
- they assume all prostitutes are being taken advantage of.0 1 0 0

A lot of people dislike it because of what is associated with it. There's forced prostitution for once. I know you said assuming they are doing it on their will , but there is no denying that forced prostitution exists and in most cases its impossible for men to tell.
Another is spread of STDs and the fact that many men who go to hookers are married or in a long term relationship, without their partner knowing, that's cheating and that's wrong.
And lastly people are worried of what image (young) men get of women in our society if we make obvious that many men do this and that it's alright. I too would be worried about how men will see women if they grow up believing they can basically treat them as toys if they pay for it. It kinda goes hand in hand with that but many people believe that prostitutes are frequently abused or raped.
Particularly if you look at some Asian countries, this stereotype about often underage girls who have no other choice but sell their bodies if they want to feed their families have to let old men do to them what they want, is a very popular one. And in too many cases it's probably true.
Before someone comments on this, no legalising prostitution does not eliminate those problems or even improve them. Countries that have done it have shown that.
You may have noticed that none of those things I stated directly relate to the prostitute herself, but moreso to the men (or women for that matters) who go to them.
Exept for morals there is no argument that someone who wants to work as hooker shouldn't do it.
I would say it's morally wrong, but I understand there are people who feel diffently about this0 1 0 0but arguably there are more problems associated with illegal prostitution, look at the huge cost of incarceration police courts, and say a guy or a girl who want to do this once in a while would sudenly have their lives ruined, and won't necessarily stop what they are doing. like people arrested for pot now it will be harder for them to job a etc, and these laws hurt poor people, like outlawing homlessness, doing that won't suddenly make them rich
If they had a high sex drive they could simply find a boyfriend with a high sex drive, or a friend with benefits even, the fact that they are selling themselves implies desperation, and it is almost always purely motivated by the money. Most prostitutes are doing it for lack of better options, and I think its wrong for them because its not what they really want to be doing and if someone offered them a way out they would take it. For those, if any who do it because they like it and they don't even really need the money, I don't care.
0 0 0 1Honestly, I could care less. If that's the way someone wants to live their life, do it. Who am I to dictate what someone should and shouldn't do. Is it risky? Does it have a lot of consequences? Definately yes! But, you know what it's tough times, people have to make it, and if that's their only option, who am I to judge

0 3There is nothing wrong with prostitution. I think the 'taboo' is because the primary clientele tends to be married men. At the risk of sounding crude, I think this could actually strengthen a relation ship, if the guy is sexually frustrated - because then he can stop thinking about sex all the time and finally give his woman the non-sexual attention she needs.
0 0 0 1Im pretty sure cheating with a prostitute would ruin a relationship
well, the point of prostitution is discretion. it would only ruin a relationship if you get caught.
Actually, fewer men cheat by means of prostitution because it's more difficult to get away with it this way. For some stupid reason, there's an unwritten rule amongst married folk: If you are going to cheat, do with with someone who has as much to lose as you do. I don't like cheating and never will
I don't think it's wrong or taboo, people especially women don't like it because they say it's bad and they don't have a reason for it.
0 0 0 1I don't think it's a taboo subject. I think it gets discussed often enough.
It's a taboo occupation though.
Any girl who works in it, will generally not admit to it. And any guy who avails of it, had better keep his mouth shut too. Public opinion treats both parties as though there was something seriously and permanently wrong with them.
ie. She must have been abused as a child, he obviously hates women or can't get laid on his own0 2 0 0why do they make up stories that she must have been abused as a child? Are they assuming it?
