3 Theories on Attraction Proved Real By the Female Fandom over Khal Drogo

3 Theories on Attraction Proved Real By the Female Fandom over Khal Drogo

1) You can be a jerk if that's the custom and if it's dominant

Khal rapes Dani pretty much right away. Sure, her brother said it was cool and he technically was in charge of her. And, sure, that's just the way it goes down in the Dothraki camps. But still he raped her and she ended up falling in love.

I'd argue that he wouldn't be as sexy a figure to real women if he was "the outlier" dothraki king who right away was like NO! she's special. It's as if the fact that he realized that only slowly...after being inside her against her that she's special. It is also only after she stands up to him and takes charge sexually playing into the female fantasy that women can win an otherwise dominating and all powerful man by taking sexual control.

2) Value is EVERYTHING

He is the head native American rip off chieftan guy. He is the leader of men and he chose her as his special snowflake. Would khal drogo be as sexy if he was just peon drogo? The problem is often this--with nothing else to go on, people are attracted to status. Status can be popularity as is often the case for women or physical difference and symmetry as is often the case for men. So drogo being the boss is very sexy and frames why it's so sexy that he chooses to be nice to her even though he could have any woman he wants.

3) Speak little and let women project their fantasies

Men spend a lot of time trying to be and say the right thing but why? I don't really remember khal drogo actually saying that much to Dani...he kind of just beat his chest and made violent threats to other men in the camp who tried to challenge him. yet that one little thing he said about sun and stars which is probably something every dothraki guy says became this super powered romantic declaration of undying love that Dani and female GOT fans cherish. I bet a lot of guys have this experience...you date a girl and you're kind of over the relationship and she says "remember when you said I was the first person you felt comfortable with" or " do you remember that date and we walked on the bridge and you named that star after me?" Uh...not really but sure? Khal drogo proves that if you've got the value, the looks, the dominance, you need to SAY very little. Takeaway gentelmen, don't try to be a perfectionist just say something and they'll romantize how great it is based on how you perform in other areas.

  • Drogo isn't hot in the way you make it seem (to me at least) Jason Mamoa is HOT. Him as Khal Drogo was funny bc let's be honest, his acting is shit.

I read the books first, so, 1) He did get consent from her that first night, he only knew the word no, at first Dani was like NO. Then he traced his fingertips ALL over her body and she was like YES. sidenote: homegirl was still 13, all the other nights he raped her, to Khal's people, the people in Westeros, and most of the world in that universe spousal rape did not exist. He didn't think he was doing anything bad, and she could have been with a proper Westerosi gentleman and if he had raped her, he still would have been within his rights because she was supposed to be giving up the goods. Same with cultures in our own world. I'm not saying it's right, but it was a fact. And George writes his worlds based on the one we live in.

    2) He is not a native American rip off, George R. R. Martin crafted the Dothraki to be a blend of Mongol, Native American, and other cultures. I noticed Mongol influences more than anything else. He chose her because she was the most beautiful woman in the world and a princess, he wanted to get married and what's better for the guy with the biggest khalasar than Dani? Rare rare rare. Think Gaston's reasoning for wanting Belle in beauty and the beast. Him liking her, Dani is EXTREMELY charming, most people like her after a while, she's just wired that way. (and her brother resented her for that) Could her husband really resist it? No, I don't see why, Khal wasn't an evil weird guy.

    3) Khal didn't speak a lot in general bc 1) most of the day he's away with his bloodriders or riding a horse for miles and miles (so, you see him less than friendzoned protector Jorah) 2) you may think he never spoke to him, but she knew Dothraki, what makes you think they never said anything in their tent? They did. 3) He knew a little of Dani's language, so, when she was talking to people in hers, what could he have said (same with her and Dothraki in the beginning) And lastly, I found book Khal way better than Jason Mamoa's version.

Haha, this was SO long XD You woke the fan!

    • i admit i read the books except the first one since someone said its literally the first season of the show. i did know that they aged a lot of the younger characters for the show. lol ok on the mongol thing point is he didn't come up with some brand new culture out of his imagination it was rooted. lol sorry to make fun of your boyfriend!

    • XD stahp, he's not my boyfriend XD if he was, he'd be imaginary :'o You should totally read the first book, it builds backstory very well :) and gives a really robust first impression of some characters, like Cersei, Jon, Dany, Sansa, Arya (loved Arya's chapters) Plus, it shows where the show randomly changed stuff for no reason (like Dany's first sexual experience)

    • I might skip winds of winter book. That fat asshole writes too slow and now I had to learn brand new info from the show so his twists won't be so oh my damn.

  • He never raped her in the books. That is all.

    • Well he did, but it's tricky. You can say he didn't know he was doing it.

    • @FýrdracaDócincel did you read the books?

    • No but I know enough. He offered her the chance to say no, but when she was understandably not quite sure what to say, he took it as a yes and went at it.
