8 Common Sex Myths - Debunked

Real Talk

I have had my fair share of sexual partners, and I’ve also had many conversations with men and women about their experiences in the bedroom. For the life of me, I can’t figure out when people became so ignorant towards sex. Where did all of these crazy claims come from, and why in the world are people believing them?

8 Common Sex Myths – Dubunked

Last week, I was hanging out with my younger cousin, and she told me that she is only having anal sex before marriage because she wants to stay a virgin. That was the last straw for me! “How could she be so naïve?” I thought to myself. I thought about her comment for a while, and then I decided to take it upon myself to educate the world about sex and debunk these common myths.

1) Penis Size Matters

Seriously, guys. Enough already. I am so tired of hearing every guy I meet talk about the size of his manhood. I know, I know, you all think bigger is better, but when it comes to sexual pleasure, size is really not that big of a deal!

Think of it this way: there are only about 3-inches of nerve endings inside the vagina, so as long as your penis is measuring 3-inches, you’re in the clear. The rest of the vaginal canal is like dead space – there’s no feeling whatsoever.

If you’re really that worried about the size of your business, try different positions that allow for deeper penetration. Remember guys: it’s not the size of your penis that makes her crave you, it’s what you do with it.

2) More Cum = Stronger Orgasm

Nope. Not even a little true.

The amount of ejaculate released during intercourse has nothing to do with how pleasurable the sex was. Lots of things are dependent upon the amount of semen a guy releases, including alcohol consumption, diet, lifestyle, and time between orgasms.

3) Sex is a Great Workout

Meh, not really. On average, sex only burns about 20 calories. A trip to the gym is WAY more beneficial if you’re looking to drop a few pounds, but a roll in the sack is just so much more fun.

Even though sex may not be the best for burning calories, it has many other undeniable health benefits, and can even prevent heart disease and extend life-spans!

Best bet: if you skipped the gym today, you should probably sex it up tonight. You know, just to be safe.

4) Sex Always Hurts the Girl the First Time

In many cases, having sex for the first time can be a bit uncomfortable. But that’s not always the case. In fact, there are many factors that contribute to sexual pain, including:

  • Relaxation: If the girl isn’t relaxed enough, or is feeling pressured or rushed by her partner, she may experience some discomfort during sex.
  • Dryness: Lube is everyone’s best friend. Dryness occurs for lots of reasons – but usually, it has something to do with a lack of arousal or the specific stage of her menstrual cycle.
  • Experience: Or, the lack thereof. When a girl is having sex for the first time with an inexperienced partner, things can get pretty uncomfortable. With sex, practice makes perfect and it only gets better with time. It’s all about finding the rhythm that works for you.

5) Guys Who Like Anal Sex Are Secretly Gay

Surely you’ve heard tons of guys refer to themselves as “ass men,” right? I know I have. Guys who like anal sex are definitely not secretly gay, they just enjoy their girl’s booty and like exploring their sexual desires.

Anal sex is all about preferences – for a guy who is all about that bass, anal sex is a dream come true. For a girl who is quite proud of her curves, having a guy worship her backside could be quite the turn on. It’s a win-win situation, and nobody is secretly gay because of it!

Plus, anal sex is taboo and kinky. Some people are really into the idea of exploring certain topics in the bedroom that are viewed as “off limits” by others. Why? Because it’s hot. It’s naughty. It’s sexy.

6) "Double Bagging" Is Better for Preventing Pregnancy

While no form of contraception is 100% effective against pregnancy (only abstinence is), wearing two condoms (AKA, Double Bagging) does exactly the opposite of what you were hoping for.

I’m all about safety, and I can really appreciate a guy who is too, but this is just obnoxious. Not only does Double Bagging greatly reduce the guy’s pleasure during sex, but the friction of the condoms rubbing against each other causes them to break.

Stick with one condom, and you’re golden. If you’re really worried, opt for a few drops of spermicidal lubricant. You’re talking box-of-fort-knox style protection at a price you can afford.

7) Big Feet = Big…

Ladies, I know you’ve been eyeing that hottie with the size 14 shoe, secretly wondering what he’s hiding under those jeans. I hate to burst your bubble, but… There is absolutely NO correlation between a man’s foot size and the size of his penis.

The same concept applies to fingers, feet, arms, legs, etc. There is no way to tell a man’s penis size without taking a peek for yourself. So, go ahead. Peek away.

8) Faking the Big "O" is a Girl Thing

True, lots of women fake orgasms. But, lots of guys fake orgasms too. Why? Well, that’s anyone’s guess, but some of the main reasons include:

  • To get it over with – Guys get tired too.
  • To please his partner – If she isn’t feeling it, it’s pretty cruel to keep on keepin’ on.
  • To hold onto his pride – Common practice for guys with erectile dysfunction.

Guys are also pretty good at faking it too! It’s pretty easy to fake the noises and the notorious “O” face, and guys have mastered the art. There’s no harm in faking it every now and then, but if it becomes a habit, this is something that should be shared with your partner.

Other Sex Myths?

There are more myths about sex than I can count, but I just wanted to share a few of the most common ones I often hear on GAG, and also from friends. What are some of the most common sex myths your friends believe? Did you believe any myths about sex only to later learn the truth? Tell me in the comments!

What Girls & Guys Said

  • Everyone seems to disagree on the size issue... I don't think it matters personally. Don't know about the "dead space" after 3 inches though.

  • Apart from no. 1, these are surprisingly uncommon questions on GaG. Great take nonetheless!

  • You lost me at #1

  • Hahahah yesssss

I always tell guys that the size of their dick doesn't matter but they don't believe me. Some dudes are just over sensitive about their dick as much as some girls fret over their bra cups. Can't really convince them otherwise. /shrug

You're right with #4, 5, 6 and 7 too! Haha. #8 surprised me because I didn't think it was all that common with the other gender but hey, you learn something new everyday.

  • Excellent. At first I was like, "oh here we go". Another common misconception is that all girls or guys like the same things. And on penis size, there are some that are size queens but there are some of everything type fetishes or preferences. Great job!

    • I think studies show that around 2/3rds of females have a rape fantasy at least at some point in time... kinda weird to me

    • I'm sure some of our fantasies would be weird to them too. I guess ghe rape fantasy has to do with submission and humiliation but having it rape means it is forced on her and her not "really" wanting rough sex.

    • I see there is some disagreement on #2, my experience is that that is true. Same orgasm just fewer spurts, and, sometimes even stronger as the body is trying to find something to offer up.

  • Disagree with #1 and #2

    Penis size matters.

99% of the time, the better it felt, the more I cummed

  • Good read... i feel kind of weird reading this but it will probably save me lol

  • don't know what you mean by ”dead space” but what a figure of speech. i can feel the penis going in around my cervix and touching the area

  • Interesting, I have large hands, wear a size 12 shoe and you guessed it, have a larger than average size penis.

    • she didn't say that people with big feet couldn't have big dicks. She just says that not all people with big feet have big dicks...

    • Relax Bugiman

  • I'm sure above average sized penis turns a girl on more. It's likely a psychological things like most guys get more turned on having sex with a girl with big breasts rather than small breasts even though obviously that really has nothing to do with sensations in the penis. It really just depends on the girl and how into a big penis she is. Guys who are below average are at a disadvantage.

  • Penis size does matter but not super big like 8 inches. I think a lot of guys think that is what women want.

  • I'm worried about my penis size again after reading the comments. Haha

  • I care about making my partner happy and that he's making me happy. The rest is extra.

  • Hi I'm Jimmy nice to meet you

  • Yes these are good..

  • Hmmm I disagree with #1 and #2. The rest looks great.

  • thanks for informing, now i am sur that pen*** size is not big deal for the girl, they were tricking us

  • ... I have nothing to say here.

  • I don't think many people actually believe many of these myths anyway. Penis size might not really matter for sex but most girls still like a big penis the way they like big muscles cause it makes him more manly, that's why guys boast about their big penis. The 4th I thought was true, I thought almost all girls hurt the first time, and often even bleed because of the hymen. And the 7th, I know there are many men with big feet and small penis or vise versa but I think if you take millions of people and look at averages, bigger feet, hands and penises will often come together. And I know guys sometimes fake it too but it's easier for girls to fake it and girls fake it a lot more often than guys

    • Most girls don't like big muscles, they like a healthy look (which may involve some muscles). So I don't agree with your point

    • I don't mean huge bodybuilder muscles but most girls like muscles cause they make a man look more manly, you might not yourself but the majority does. Most girls want masculine men

  • It's not about size as much as it is about bloodflow. If you can't keep bloodflow concentrated to a certain degree inside the man where it counts, then all the "trying to do something with it" in the world won't matter. That's where lifestyle comes into play.

Depending on positions, male bloodflow in the right direction may or may not be an easy thing to accomplish. Those who like the missionary position would do well to note that doing push-ups regularly is essential to good performance, for example. If you're not used to supporting your own weight with your arms, then your brain will stress out over support and you won't be able to hold your position. This will make you go limp, and lead to a frustrating time for both partners.

If you can't do push-ups but can tolerate standing up, find a bathtub. Have her support one leg on the tub's edge and stand still with the other leg. This position will allow the man to support himself without stress and worry, allowing the erection to last longer.
