And if the first few shots only slow him down and aren't kill shots, the one to his skull as he's limping away will be.

That's fine when the situation is exactly right, but things are a bit different if the gunman knows what he's doing. No TRAINED person will be holding a gun out in front of them like this, or would allow someone to get that close. You'd have to hope the gunman was an idiot and drunk on the power he thinks his gun gives him.

Statistically, that's probably true, but don't forget that there ARE some pure evil people in the world, who are stone cold sober, and mean as a junkyard dog, who are also SMART and FOCUSED. That's far more terrifying, and it's far more important that you handle yourself correctly.

@MrOracle Pure evil people are always very stupid, but they do often think they are smart. Sometimes they can memorize enough things to appear smart, but they lack common sense, understanding, the ability to make wise choices, and thats enough to fuck them over. Stupidity is the mother to evil. Without it, evil can't exist. The situation at hand itself though, would at the very least require close proximity to the shooter, in order to meet their request, and this is what allows this method of self defense to work, so right there, by allowing close proximity, they are stupid enough to be thwarted.
