As a position for butt guys like me, no.
Reasons:
1) the view. This is a position where her butt is flaunt, just for the guy's pleasure. It's sexy, intimate and definitely the fulfilment of many bedtime fantasies with regards the girl.
2) the connection. It takes a lot of mental strength for a girl to show her most private parts this way. She must have the trust and belief that the guy loves her, to say the least. Hence I think this position is very intimate, if we guys try to feel it beyond the lust.
3) easy to eat her and very sensual pungent to the nose. I like to smell her butthole while eating her. In fact I usually end with rimming her. Its a wonderful enjoyment.
4) penetrating her this way gives her orgasms. Ya, good to see her cum. It gives that satisfaction that I'm "doing it right".
Hence no, doggy style position is not overrated. Do it right its very intimate and gives much pleasures to both.

Indeed I agree. Us guys truly like it more than girls. But if you avail yourself to know him better, and then "surrender" yourself to him because you love and trust him and want to pleasure him, then I think you will become "naughty" and may enjoy doggy style more. Just a personal opinion as a guy.
While it's a good "rough" position for girls who like to be spanked or have their hair pulled, and while I enjoy it, I am in full agreement with you that it's not really in my Top 5 of best positions, and for more-or-less the reasons you've given. I don't think it is over rated when it is done with someone close.

The problems with "Doggy style":
1. Lack of face to face intimacy
2. Penis tends to fall out in between each thrust, unless the woman is face down on the bed, up against a wall, over a chair, etc.
You must be on the short in. Mine stays in the best in that position besides missionary.

It's not overrated, it's just not my preference have to do modified doggy with my wife rather than plain ole doggy, but with upgraded doggy. It's a little more work. And I prefer to be able to hold her instead of just having her bounce on me.
