Birth control and pulling out?

My boyfriend and I are sexually active. I'm on the ortho evra patches and we pull out during sex. We don't use condoms as I'm allergic to latex and finding non-expensive non-latex condoms is difficult.

Does anyone else use this method? Should I be encouraging condoms?

  • The patch seems effective, but requires perfect use to reach the 99%.

The pull out method is NEVER, and I mean NEVER an okay method. Precum can get a woman pregnant, and who knows if he'll notice in time, or pull out before it's an issue, you can easily get pregnant via the pullout.

If you want to avoid pregnancy, patch condom is your best bet. I understand that you're allergic to latex, but if you want to be safe, you're going to have to deal with the difficulty of finding non-latex condoms.

    • Thank you for your answer - I'm usually spot on with my patch and boyfriend is usually spot on with pulling out. Non latex condoms 3 pack is around $15 which adds up after a time. However your answer definitely gave me something to think about!

  • If you're allergic to latex, finding suitable condoms may be difficult and expensive. I'ce never had a problem with pulling out, in fact if done properly ia guy can pull out but keep you going and reinsert once cooled down. This is a dangerous method though especially if he gets a lot of precum which normally does not contain sperm, as if he gets too close to ejaculation it can contain sperm. I'm not sure why but I never get precum.

Try spermicidal jelly with a non latex diaphram it may take away from the moment of being spontaneous but safer.

  • I use condoms but I'm thinking of switching to an implant. A friend of mine got it a year ago and says it's great because she won't get pregnant in the next two years either and she doesn't have to worry about taking a pill or buying condoms.

    • Does your friend use no condoms and allows boyfriend to finish inside of her then? Thank you for your answer

    • My SO uses IUDs with me for about 6 years at least (changed a few times) and did not get pregnant. PS: we're sexuality VERY active.

    • @Asker Yes!

  • The combination of the patch and pulling out should be sufficient. Pulling out gets a bad rap but it’s a fine secondary method.

  • This is a good topic for discussion with your doctor.

  • my wife and i have been sexually active for the past 7 years, 5 of which we are married.. She has always been on BC, and i have never pulled out, Never once been pregnant. What does that tell you.

    • Thank you for your response - which birth control is she on?

    • Its called Sprintec.. oral contraceptive.

  • There is a type of condom you could use. They are sheep skin condoms. They are a little expensive though.

    • I know those and I agree with you. For a three pack of those in South Africa is R101, works out to about $10 - $15 at a time and that begins to add up.

    • 10 to 15 dollars sounds about right. I've bought them before I couldn't remember how much they were. I do remember the price being different depending on where I bought them
