For a blowjob, you at least need to be able to take his head in your mouth. But you do NOT have to take him deep.
Tongue and suck on his knob when it is in your mouth. Pull on the back of it with your lips as you suck and let it pop out on occasion.
You can and should supplement sucking by running your lips and tongue up and down the sides of his shaft and balls.
