  • What would be the purpose of a 'straight pride' month?
Every time this is suggested, it shows that the poster doesn't understand the point of pride events.

The point of pride is to show that LGBT people aren't these distant, unknown entities that you'll never meet - They're our colleagues, neighbours, friends, family. You look at that crowd and you're supposed to think, look at all these people - some of them could even be people I know! Wow. LGBT people are just like me, or at least, I can't always recognise them just by looking.
It's a show of numbers, too. To show just how many people you'd supposedly be discriminating against.

Now, with this in mind, what would be the point of 'straight pride'? Hetero couples aren't denied rights or assaulted for existing. Everyone already knows straight people exist.

Now, if you're asking for 'straight pride' because you just want a similar event that's just... a celebration of sex and gender? Great - I'd be all for having a bunch of Mardi-Gras-esque events that were for fun and didn't have the LGBT pride narrative. But cut the 'straight pride' nonsense. It doesn't make any sense.

    • I just want an excuse for a party!

    • "Hetero couples aren't denied rights" What rights have you been denied?

    • @StevieNix Presently things are pretty good. Though if conservatives get their way they'll roll back progress. I remember there being protests a few months ago over them trying to keep transpeople out of their transitioned-to genders public restrooms, for instance.

  • How about we have just be a human month? Where people simply put their differences aside and get to know each other as individuals. Because that does not happen enough and clearly human history is full of examples of how people forcing their differences onto each other can create combative situations.

  • You can but you're going to look silly. I am prideful about being straight but I don't need to go around saying "im straight, im straight, look at me im straight"

Nah. I'm content with who i am. and im glad that lgbt is finally getting to feel the same

  • There are 11 straight pride months. Feeling left out when a minority tries to get attention for their cause and hardship is petty and childish. The same as ‘blue lives matter’ vs ‘black lives matter’.

    • Jealous much?

    • @BillyBalls why?

  • You literally weren’t oppressed for loving who you love. You don’t need a straight pride month

  • Just go to gay pride. It's not like gay pride stops you partying with them. Hell gay pride is called gay pride yet holds the raindbow flag which means more than gay.

  • This is a joke right

  • Sure, by all means, but as a straight man myself, I will care just as much about that as any other pride month, which is to say, not at all.

Why do people need public validation for their sex life, nationality, etc? I just don't get it.

    • Exactly. I don't care who fucks whom. No one needs to know who I fuck.

    • @BillyBalls Agreed.
