I wouldn't be surprised. But where is your evidence? Do you have a reference?
All I could find was, "Twerking was born out of New Orleans' bounce music scene, a hip hop sub-genre centered around call-and-response vocals and the endlessly sampled Triggaman beat. The first reference to twerking in a song is DJ Jubilee's "Do the Jubilee All" in 1993, which features him telling the crowd to, "Twerk baby, twerk baby, twerk, twerk, twerk."
I always assumed that it had it's origins in African culture. It seems highly unlikely that Caucasians or Asians came up with it. No, I'm not being racist. I'm not judging. I mean, I love rock & roll, and it has its roots in African-American music. Africans have contributed a lot to western culture.
I think I remember an old movie from the 30s or 40s with a scene from an African-American club where some women were doing something similar to rhythmic jazz.0 1 0 0twerking as a dance style has its roots in African tribal dances. it wasn't a sexualized thing but the shaking and gyration of hips is a very old form of dance in africa.

Hmm 🤔 I wouldn't say that it started there though I would agree that it has been used by prostitutes to get attention.
"The origins of twerking can be traced to Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa, where a similar style of dance, known as the Mapouka dance, was originated. The dance has existed for centuries and consists of a series of movements emphasizing the buttocks. Although not viewed in the same respects as dances such and ballet or tap, when done right, it requires tremendous skill and attention."

I didn't realize that, in any case it's not a style of dance I would care to participate in. Basically if I do any thing in the dance category it's for exercise and not to attract attention. For instance Zumba for exercise looks fun. Oh congrats on Master status by the way!

Then you also know where the sagging pants Thugs wear came from.
0 0 0 0I didn’t know that. Lizzo, who is being pushed heavily by the regime as a paragon of femininity and role model for girls, recently went on a whole digression about how twerking is part of black culture and originates in Africa.
0 1 0 0I wouldn't doubt it.
0 0 0 0Yeah it's a garbage "dance", used primarily by those who are also garbage.
0 1 0 0I did, it's why I see women who do it as literally pieces of trash.
0 1 0 0Source?
Regardless, it sounds plausible. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. Kind of curious which region started it tho.
These days people dig the ripped jeans fad. Like literal bums. Disgusting.
