Did you scrub your doorstep?

Back in the olden days (before the 80s) housewives would dutifully get on their knees once a week to scrub their doorsteps. The most important thing was to be seen to be doing it because it was considered shameful not to.
Even up to fairly recently my granny would go through the motions but the practice has pretty much thankfully died out.

But did you scrub your step or know someone who did or were you one of those shameless families with a dirty step?

  • I never heard of anyone doing that here. Most houses aren't even built with a doorstep on the sidewalk like that. Most houses are set back from the curb behind front yards. And there are steps going up to the front porch, which is usually made of wood.
I suppose it's necessary to sweep them off from time to time.

If someone saw their neighbor scrubbing their steps or porch, they'd figure something got spilled on it.

  • Nah, you don't do stuff like that in Texas summer... the sun might see you and roast your hind quarters with his laser weapon.
We did have this one lady though, probably in her seventies, from the "old country".
She would dutifully appear in front of her house in knee length black coat and pill box hat and sweep the entire driveway and sidewalk... always neat as a pin.
Of course the kids thought she HAD tobe a witch...

    • thanks for the MHO

  • The hubby sweeps the front porch weekly. In the summer it gets the hose treatment or even a pressure wash since mr. bat likes to eat mosquitoes and shit them out, you guessed it, directly on our door step.

  • We power was ours like once a year along with the drive way

  • The paint is peeling off of mine, if i scrubbed it I'm afraid there'd be no paint left

  • That's usually where I piss when all the bathrooms are occupied. It's tough living with four little women!

  • I use a pressure washer.

  • I've never known anyone to scrub the doorstep. I do, occasionally, beat the dirt out of the welcome mat.

  • Cool picture. But in America we have huge houses with American flags in front of them. No doorstep or tea kettle. Grandma sits on her ass watching game show re-runs.

  • I vacuum the doormat sometimes/

  • My wife really should scrub the footstep more often. Good point.

  • Nope the rain does it for me.

  • Not scrubbing but I sweep it

  • No, I just use a broom.

  • Never, but I love how they automatically just put your questions in the sex category

    • I clicked on family and friends

    • And they put it here 😂

  • My mom does it.

  • Don't give my wife any ideas. She's been going out and sweeping our stoop off for years. She's out there sleeping the step off I swear daily if there's a leaf. And when a bird comes along and defecates on the stoop she's out there with water wiping it off.

  • Nope.. I have actually never seen it done.

  • I don’t scrub but broom leaves dirt etc away

  • isn't that what mops and brooms are for?
