Do ALL pedophiles deserve to die?

I am asking this becauseon facebook and such there are lots of posts saying something along the lines of "Reshare if you believe this is the proper punishment for pedophilia" and there's a picture of an electric chair. But what about those with pedophilia that are ashamed of what they fantasize about, never acted on those fantasies and don't ever want to? Do they deserve to die too just for being born with those kinds of desires even though they would never act on them?

  • I don't think any pedophile should be killed, whether he acts upon his (her?) desires or not. First of all, nobody can be blamed for having phantasies and desires. Killing somebody for suffering from pedophilia is pretty much like killing people for being gay... and I was hoping we're slowly getting over that.
    But even if a pedophile acts on his desires, I don't quite understand why - especially in America - people freak out completely and become so insane that they even speak of torturing these pedophiles. See, raping a child is not okay. I get that. And most certainly, there have to be certain measures in place to keep society safe from such people (as a European, I am more for re-socialization than pure punishment because it has been proven time and again that pure punishment doesn't make any difference). However, my big question is this: why does everyone think raping a child is worse than raping an adult woman? Or even a man? I understand that society has some kind of very deep desire to protect children. I love children myself and so I can empathize with this. But if we talk about what's "right" and what's "wrong", we should try to remain rational and not let our emotions overrule us. And rationally speaking, a child molester isn't any better or worse than a normal rapist. Just because little kids are cute and puffy doesn't make them have a higher value or something like that. I strongly believe that all human beings have the same universal value and dignity. Be it old or young people, men or women, black or white, handycapped or not, gay, bi or straight, fat or skinny. A child is not worth more than an adult, hence I don't see why a pedophile should face a particularly severe punishment. And I most certainly don't understand why so many people view pedophiles as some kind of public enemy number one. But unfortunately, people don't like to hear opinions such as mine, because they enjoy living in their little superficial boxes where everything is either black or white, good or bad, and you don't have to think hard to know who to love and who to hate.

  • The technical definition of 'pedophilia' is sexual attraction to children, even without having sex with a child or watching child porn; a pedophile genocide would be unconstitutional, no exceptions.

    Also, for all the pro-homosexuality advocates (ESPECIALLY the blowhard ones, and *I'm* for equality, marriage and adoption rights for gays and lesbians) who say "Sexual orientation isn't a choice!" and then express utter animosity toward pedophiles, they're contradicting their own argument: even if you don't like them, the thing to do is pray that they see the error of their ways and improve than to condemn them.

  • Two wrongs don't make a right. Do people with other kinds of fetishes, such as BDSM, water-sports, etc., also deserve to die? Killing people for not adhering to the norm?

    Pedophilia is in no way okay. But just killing people who identify with that sort of interest seems a bit extreme. As if eradicating them as a problem in a manner similar to rodents with a mouse trap. :/

  • No I dont think so... You can't control the way you think and especially if you're ashamed of the thoughts that you have and you would never/have never acted on it what is their to penalize you on?

    We all have forbidden thoughts or think of sinning once in our lifetime and for anyone who says they don't they're a liar.

  • I don't think we have a right to decide that someone else should die. We lose a piece of our humanity by doing that. Having said that, society needs to be protected from sexual deviants. Prison terms haven't been a deterrent, so I believe civil commitment should be automatic for repeat offenders.

  • Well all of them deserve to die EXCEPT for the ones that were abused be pedophiles themselves as children. If your parents routinely beat you and burned you as a child and you become a pedophile - you should be viewed as a mental patient and not as a hated enemy target.

  • If they do not act on it, and never plan on it, then you shouldn't be killed. Maybe some psychological help, but not death. If someone is very hateful, and wishes to murder someone, but never does then you can't punish them for murder. Same concept can be applied to most crimes. There is a psychological disorder that makes you want to steal. If you have that, but dont steal, then you should be left alone.

  • If at all possible, I think they should get treatment at first. But if they act upon their desires after treatment, off with the heads.

  • They can't help who they are, so i don't think they should be punished at all for merely BEING a pedophile. That's like saying someone with a panty fetish deserves to be punished merely for HAVING a panty fetish.

    However, if they ACT on their desires, then they most certainly do deserve to be punished.

  • Real talk, if there's one single thing Broadchurch got right outside of its soundtrack it was that it addressed pedophilia without instantly going all out like most people. Many are aware of their perversions, and hate them. Many want to change, but can't control themselves. Instead of just throwing them under a bus instantly, you should try to rehabilitate them. You know, like everyone does with fat gits.

    Pedophiles cannot change who they are. They are into children and this can't be changed.
    If the pedophile has engaged in sexual contact with a child I believe he deserves to die. (Hard to say)
    If the pedophile hasn't attempted anything it must have taken a lot of willpower which is somewhat more justifiable. They should be given a chance.
